Despite many PS4 owners asking for cross play, even a majority here on gfaqs in a recent poll, Sony is saying no on account of "protecting the children"
Jim Ryan Yeah. We've got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base. Minecraft - the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it's all ages but it's also very young. We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it's something we have to think about very carefully. Today I got a friend request form someone named Hitler. Actually the person's full name was Hitler Hitler. This got me curious, so I did a few searches on my PS4, and low and behold, there are a lot of people named Hitler Hitler out there. Names are easy to change though, so what about PSN IDs? As it turns out the PlayStation Network allows the more questionable of those as well. In the span of 10 minutes I found these PSN IDs (not names, but actual PSN IDs): LongLiveHittler Hit_lerWasFramed ethnic_cleansing Adolfregierthier jewish_gas hhittleradolf Gestapo x-GESTAPOss-x rudolfhess xxRudolfHeSSxx RudolfHess1488 siegheil ... And I'm not even listing those containing derogatory terms for misc. races. Let's just say there are some very imaginative PSN IDs out there. Moat are level 1 with no trophies, but they are there. That is the 'PlayStation curated universe'. I'm calling hypocrisy. Say it like it is Sony; "We don't want to share because we're far ahead". We can all relate to that, even those of us, that disagree with the decision. If you're on ps4? why would you want to share with other platforms? It is not a significant increase at all.
Also, sony doesn't have to appease to people who bought the wrong console. Deal with it. Get a life, its a 2 month old story by now.

Then report these names. Sony cant monitor every psn name, yeah theres a censor for some words but obviously some are not.

It is not a significant increase at all. Why wouldn't I share with other platforms. More players is always a plus, especially for some of the niche titles. Titanfall 2 is bigger on Xbox than PS4, but overall the game could really benefit from pooled playerbases. Cross play would litterraly take nothing away. No game will be less fun for being cross play. Cross play would only be a benefit for all gamers. It may only be 2 months for you. It's been 3½ years for me. This is a feature that would be for the players, and going by the poll linked in the op, the majority of PS4 owners on gfaqs are with me on wanting this. cyclonictrigger posted... ps4 has crossplay with paragon, war thunder, and i'm sure a few other games. you may stfu now.

I understand that we must keep advocating for crossplay, but for Sony to listen it first has to benefit them.
And crossplay only benefits the platform with the lower install base, not the one with the higher install base. As a matter of fact, the platform with the higher install base gains nothing from allowing his larger pool to migrate to other territories. So how can we make sure a corporation to not think as a corporation?

The truth is that Sony's network is struggling just handling its own players, imagine how bogged down and laggy it would get connecting with MS and Nintendo's too. It would give the other guys an opportunity to rag on Sony's network when they see just how antiquated Sony's network is, and Sony doesn't want to spend the money to fix it up. That, and I imagine they figure it could enable hackers to break in, and it would be more difficult to tell if the hackers were attacking them directly, or through the other networks.
But yeah, let's go with that "for the children" baloney.
I play games, not count frames. Just make the games fun to play again, like they used to be in previous gens.
