But honestly...it just reminds me how bland the upcoming AAA lineup is in general. I really don't care that they use Denuvo...just...they're all pretty much sequels that aren't going off the beaten path at all.

It's because of how bloated game budgets have become. Sequels are good sellers, and basically guarantee success. Basically all the innovation these days is in the hands of indie studios, because they don't have to sell five million copies to break even. (I mean, there's a lot of indie shovelware, too, but the stuff that rises to the top is excellent.)

The big studios need to bring back AA and A games, not just AAAs. Give a great dev a smaller team and less executive oversight, and you'll see innovative, indie style games and games that appeal to niche audiences out of the major publishers. Bring back the things that work to the AAA arena.

Well, that's an awful list of upcoming games. There's not a single title there that I have any interest in. I don't care really if something has Denuvo or not. I just want some good titles and new stuff to come out. I just looked at my purchase history on Steam, and the last time I bought a brand new AAA title was back in February 2016.
And? Just gives cracking groups more work.

The pirates aren't complaining. They are happy for the challenge and income opportunity. Why would they be angry about a new denuvo target to crack?

The leechers are complaining though, like a bunch of spoiled rich kids, kicking and screaming when daddy denies their request for a brand new iphone because their current one has fingerprint smudges on it.

Don't worry, I bet there will be enough sheep buying Shadow of War Gold Edition for a whopping 100$ at Day One with all the crashes/bugs/glitches on top, and I will be here, laughing at all of them.

I still wouldn't advocate Piracy, just do without, get it on sale, and or mod the DRM out.

Problem is, if they get rid of Denuvo, then something else will take its place.

While Denuvo does hobble performance, a good dev can make a game with Denuvo run extremely well even on potatoes. See: MGSV (inb4MasterFaust).

Outside of that and occasional modding issues, I've yet to hear any REAL evidence that Denuvo is bad. It's way less scary than StarForce or SecuROM, both of which can and have gone rogue and started screwing up Windows over a possible piracy vector; to my knowledge Denuvo hasn't done that in its entire lifespan. I'd gladly eat a performance decrease for DRM that doesn't nuke my Windows install if it so much as thinks I'm sailing the digital seas.

That being said, outside of MAYBE FF15 I don't see much in that list to be excited about. And even FF15 is iffy considering that the base game wasn't all that good, and if the game is optimized horribly, Denuvo will prevent a DSfix style solution. So for now indie titles are what I'll likely be supporting the most.

EDIT: Missed MvC:I. Probably will get that, given how I enjoy the MvC series.

DRM is still pointless though. DRM is to stop pirates and enable paying customers. Except the pirated version never has the DRM and the paid version does. So it's completely backwards and epic useless.

Until they find a way to only have DRM in the pirated versions, and have no DRM in the paid versions, DRM is completely stupid and a pointless waste of time, money and resources.

DRM is not useless at all. Games sell their best in the first few months. If the DRM can protect the game for that long, there's a good chance sales will be higher if it didn't have any.

I wouldn't call Bannerlord an AAA title -- and evidently that's a good thing. AAA is starting to become less a term for how much professional work is going into a game and more about how big its marketing budget is.

It would be nice if people weren't complete a******s and stole games, but that day will never come, so DRM in some form will always be there.

But it protects for days, and damages for years, and destroys forever.

Stop being so f***ing dramatic. You just look pathetic as f***.

Stop licking the corporate anus so damn deep. Your getting a terrible mustache.

What the f*** is wrong with you? That's repulsive.

If publishers are defending their property, why do they only attack paying customers, while leaving pirates alone?

Also publishers typically have no ethics. AAA publishers will lie right to your face, scheme, steal, exploit children, exploit government tax breaks, exploit cheaper foreign staff, exploit bad contracts and force crunch, and fire staff the moment the project is done. Publishers like EA have actually beaten big oil and bank of America in the middle of a recession and while an entire ocean was black from oil. They are apparently the most corrupt and unethical companies in the world.

Bring back the things that work to the AAA arena.

As long as "AAA" means top-notch graphics, huge art/animation teams and budgets to match etc., we're always going to see extremely iterative games, because they have to sell an absurd number of copies just to eek out a profit when the production budget is so high, so they aim for the broadest possible market.

The whole point of DRM is to prevent piracy. Denuvo was actually working well for quite some time.

Just because they aren't ethical doesn't mean I should be unethical too. There is no justification for piracy. They are thieves and overall s***ty human beings.

Ideally, yes, but the point of Denuvo is to be just hard enough to crack in those critical first few months of release that a percentage of casual pirates wanting to play the "latest entry in series X" cave and actually buy a copy vs. pirating. In that regard, it's been moderately successful - obviously, or else publishers wouldn't be paying them to use it in their games. Given how thin the margins are on AAA releases, publishers aren't generally too keen on throwing money away on DRM that doesn't work. I'm not saying every pirated copy equals a lost sale, that would be ludicrous, but anybody who has been PC gaming for any amount of time has to admit that casual piracy is HUGE.

And yet doesn't seem to pose a problem to properly good games. Also Denuvo provides days, not months. It's barely even hours anymore. Pirates are barely home from school before a Denuvo game is cracked.

Your defending an unethical practice by unethical people, and a program written by unethical people. All because of piracy? A thing that basically stopped existing until denuvo showed up and got the cracker kids all gung ho and happy to crack again? Denuvo is actually easy to crack, it uses decade old broken encryption (that they allegedly stole https://www.reddit.com/r/CrackWatch/comments/6evy3s/denuvo_is_going_to_be_sued/ because ethics?). It's just the group of hackers that enjoy that stuff, had basically retired because they had nothing left to crack. Denuvo has done an absolutely wonderful job bolstering and reinforcing the hacking communities. And boosting piracy to unprecedented levels. Since Denuvo landed on the scene, piracy has gone up.

There is nothing unethical about DRM.

Piracy didn't stop. Ever. It was going strong before Denuvo.

Pirates have no impact on you. The thing that has the most impact on you is the lowest common denominator, the slackjaws if you will, whose brains would go into a tilt if they had to aim a jump in the original Tomb Raiders. That's why we have s*** games with set pieces and no substance. Microtransactions in full priced games are gonna become the norm because of these halfwits.

Pirates don't change s***. It can be argued they cause DRM to be made but at some point the cycle has to be broken. Since I don't expect freeloaders will suddenly have an epiphany, we need the game companies to be the bigger man and just stop using software that doesn't even do anything beneficial for them OR their customers.

Funny how you ignored the rest of my post, including the part where I specifically pointed out that the performance decrease is better than having the DRM irreparably damage my Windows install. The former only affects (badly coded) Denuvo games and leaves the rest of my PC alone; the latter could potentially force me to reinstall Windows.

Not everything is black and white, you know. No DRM would be preferable, but Denuvo is much less nasty than StarForce or SecuROM, which makes it preferable over OS-nuking DRM.
Maybe I'll buy 2 copies of Cyberpunk 2077 with the money I saved by not supporting any of these developers.

If you work for a AAA, sure, if you self-publish/self-fund (as many indies do), you can do whatever you want. Hence the stark difference in creativity between your average AAA game and independent titles.

What Denuvo title was cracked within days of release? I admittedly don't follow/have any desire to follow "cracking" groups, but from what I've heard it took them at least a few weeks to crack the last Denuvo title.
