I think it's pretty cool, there's a lot of good games for it and there's loads more on the way, especially around december. Resident Evil 7 in VR is the scariest thing ever. Until Dawn Rush of Blood is amazing. Superhot VR is one of the most fun shooters I've ever played.

I really like VR. Improvements in technology will only make it better. But I think AR is really going to be the more popular option eventually.
The conclusions posters come to on this site, based on little to no actual facts, will slowly drive you mad. Leave now before it's to late.

VR itself isn't bad. It's fairly expensive (but there are cheaper alternatives if you have a high-end smartphone), but the main problem is that there aren't many developers out there making actual games. They're more like gimmicks if anything.
With the price that PS VR costs, I think it's ridiculous that at the very least, not every FPS game released these days supports it. PS VR could've taken off if Sony ensured that it would be an additional option in almost every game. Almost no one really cares for the gimmick VR exclusive modes, but being able to play the main games in VR would be a lot better. Gibberish5 posted... I really like VR. Improvements in technology will only make it better. But I think AR is really going to be the more popular option eventually. VR is a lot better suited for gaming. AR is better suited for almost everything else. It'll only be a matter of time before we'll be able to see AR pretty much everywhere around us just by wearing certain glasses of maybe even lenses. But until then, AR will be used a lot for designing, placement, etc. You can place a virtual building somewhere just to see what it looks like, for example. Stuff like that.

When have we had it where it was easily purchasable for use in homes? Answer? Never. Virtual boy was not VR. It was a 3d headset. No motion whatsoever, in body movement for controls or head movement to change view angles. In the past the real ones cost way more than what it does now, one was $73,000. That's why it kept going away. That and making it efficient enough to not make people sick. |

I'd like for it to continue but it doesn't sound like a must have accessory right now. Maybe PS5 will do it right. Who knows.

On PS4 maybe.
Price is still to high for most people. You cant just buy the base unit, you have to get the camera and 2 move controllers. Sony needs to get it down to $199- $299 for the whole lot. Games are coming for it but very few big games. It has Skyrim but from what I keep hearing it looks like utter trash visually. The PS4 just doesn't have the power need for it. Also there is the Motion sickness issue and there are people that no matter what extra safety feature they add to try and prevent it. They will still get motion sickness. I got a Oculus Rift from a guy for $200 for that very reason. No matter what he tried he would always get sick after 20-30 min of using it. VR on the PC is much much better. Lots and Lots of big AAA games to play in VR with Mods and 3rd party software like VorpX. Every one says they would love to play Alien Isolation in VR on here who has a PSVR well I've already played it in VR and it is amazing as hell. Also played GTA5, BioShock , Boarder Lands 2, Dying Light, Skyrim , Fallout 4, The Metro games, Outlast , Portal, The Darkness 2, and more in VR. Its really going to be a race on getting the price down. I like the PSVR but now that I got a Rift I am thinking about selling it. If Sony can do a Shadow of the Colossus VR version, I would be all over that.

I honestly can't really understand what Sony was thinking. Barely any horsepower to work with since PS4 is really weak, the VR tech itself still isn't as cheap as your average gamer will want to pay, and they did nothing to encourage any support for it. There's no good reason to want to fork out any cash for this thing. If it had some great exclusives, sure. But it doesn't. PSVR is currently worthless.

The UI in a shooter not designed for VR is usually a 2D overlay on the screen while the in-game stuff is in 3D, whereas VR doesn't work well with 2D overlays, which is why there is a theater mode where it looks like something is projected on a fall instead of overlaid on the screen. Also, in standard shooters your head and gun aim in the same direction; in VR shooters, your gum and head are operated separately. So, that adds an element that developers have to take into account. And these are just some of the issues that make transitioning a non-VR game into VR requires. |

So I was an early adopter of the PSVR, got it release day and still have it. Freaking LOVE RE7 in VR. That experience alone was worth the price for me. I will never forget it.
However I do think it still has a ways to come before it becomes a staple. This was an outstanding first attempt by Sony to bring it in though.

Musical instruments: changing reeds, strings, bows, etc. Hooking up cords, grabbing sheet music, plugging in amps and effects pedals, tuning, cleaning the instrument, replacing drum pads, replacing drum sticks, etc.
Motocross/ATVing/snowmobiling: Cleaning and performing maintenance, buying replacement parts, buying gas and keeping it gased up, changing the oil, putting on helmets and pads, etc.
Painting: buying supplies, mixing colors, allowing to dry, touching up, framing, etc.
Most hobbies have a considerable amount of work that goes into them.
In a world where I get repair tickets because someone was to lazy to change their input on their TV, I can believe buddy when he said its a hassle. :/ You would be surprised at what some people find too daunting to bother with.
