- Guys my tv doesn't have enough HDMI outlets for all my systems.
I have a Switch, A SNES Classic, and a PS4 and my tv only has 2 HDMI ports. Is there an easy way around this? The back of my tv is hard to reach so it would be a pain to switch every time i wanted to use this system.

There are adapter 'hubs' or switchboxes that you can use to plug multi HDMI ports into. Try Fry's or Best Buy.

Your option is either buying a decent quality splitter/passthrough or thinking about whether it's time for surround sound and spending extra and getting a decent AV receiver instead.
A cheap passthrough will likely give you poor results. If you decide you want to get into surround sounds, don't buy a boxed kit that comes with a receiver they are always bad. |
As others have said an HDMI splitter works well. I have one in my TV to have 5 devices hooked up (PS3 and PS4 in their own ports with the Switch, Wii U and PSTV sharing the third) I actually will probably get another one so my 360 can remain hooked up, but I can probably just swap them as I need.

I bought an RCA surround sound and it was decent. It was not great or the best but it was most definitely not bad; rather, just decent. It is always best to stay away from the boxed kits with the receiver but there are some out there that have just enough quality to pass you by until you can afford a decent receiver.

The main thing to know when buying an HDMI Switch is that many of them only run 4k at 30fps, and not 60fps.
You will usually get 60fps at resolutions of 1080p and below though. I'm also pretty sure with most of them that if you use 3D, even at 1080p, it will be kicked down to 30fps. You also have to check if they support HDR if you use that. HDR should not have much affect on FPS though.

Buy a hdmi switcher. Ones that can connect to a power source ( power strip or wall outlet) are ones I would go for.
I bought a 5 hdmi switcher years ago and would definitely recommend getting one. |
I use a HDMI-box like the ones that's been linked to here. You should be able to find one cheap in most electronic stores. I have all of three HDMI-ports in my TV, so I use one for the PC, one for the PS4, and the HDMI-box for the Switch, XBone and RetroN5. It can be a bit tricky to get the TV to recognize the Switch this way, but the solution I found that works the best:
1. Set the TV to the HDMI-box port. 2. Turn off TV. 3. Turn off Switch. 4. Unplug the dock. 5. Insert the cables again, one at a time. Not sure if a specific order is needed, but I always go power -> USB -> HDMI. 6. Turn on TV. 7. Power on the Switch. I'm mentioningg this as it can be tricky to get the TV to recognize the Switch, as I said. But I've also had some issues with the power going out from the to time, and the dock doesn't automatically switch itself off. Or the TV don't think it does, anyway. Not sure what it really is, but the TV won't accept the Switch signal anymore after power goes out. If this happens, follow the steps above, and you'll be fine again. Haven't tried this with the Switch plugged directly into the TV, though.

I know the struggle...I've got my Wii U, Switch, PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360 (soon Xbox One too) all on one TV...I just bought a splitter but haven't tried it out yet, however I got one for my older TVs with AV cables (one for each for all my older systems) so I can easily swap out NES/SNES/PS1 games with the turn of a knob...works like a charm and they cost less than 10 bucks each.

I'm in the same boat (2 HDMI ports for four things I want to plug in, and I don't have space for a bigger tv). I had been thinking of getting an hdmi splitter, but was having trouble finding something reliable, so for now, I've just been tilting my tv out of the shelf it's in every time I want to switch devices, but it's a frustrating solution.
I'm wondering whether anyone here has actually used an hdmi splitter that they liked (I see a couple of links here, just don't know if anyone has personally tried them). I looked for a splitter a couple of months ago, but so many of the review seemed to be fake for a bunch of brands that I had no idea what to get.

https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-HD1832-Intelligent-Splitter-Supports/dp/B008D6YZXG/ I use two of these on my TV. Got my Wii U, PS TV, NES Classic, SNES Classic, PS3, 360, Switch, and cable box all hooked up to them. 8 devices only take up 2 HDMI ports, and I still have 2 ports left over since each HDMI switch has 5 ports. Don't bother paying any more than what this one cost ($12.99 at the time of this post). It works perfectly, has never once lost signal or picture, and introduces no extra input lag (and I'm very sensitive to input lag, so I'd be able to tell). No reason to pay more just to get the same thing. It also automatically switches to whatever you have turned on at the time which is pretty handy. It does only support up to 1080p though. If you have a 4k TV and want to make use of the 4k resolution with a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, 4k Blu-ray player, 4k gaming PC, etc. then you'll need a 4k HDMI switcher.

For all the people telling the TC to “get a better TV”...you’re not going to find any TV with a half dozen or more HDMI inputs, which is why these things exist.

You're probably right. My first surround sound experience was 20 years ago and I couldn't afford to do it in the first place so I just gave Sony $500 for a set. It came with the cheapest wires I have ever seen in my life. The sound was loud and muffled. The receiver and all the speakers stopped working about a month after the warranty was up and it all went in the garbage. This experience was so appalling that there is no way it hasn't clouded my judgment on other surround in a box sets.
