Overhyped meaning: it ends up falling flat on its face? Toss up between NMS and MNo.9. I haven't been that let down in a long time, probably since PN03.

NMS for sure. The other titles were at least playable day 1.
Love conquers everything ... except knives, swords, axes, guns, spears, fists, rocks, strong gusts of wind, and/or dangerous wild animals.

Just reading the title, I immediately thought of No Man's Sky.
Unsurprisingly, it was first in the list of choices and is also the most popular of the choices provided. So yeah, that. Unlike the others, the hype for No Man's Sky crossed into mainstream media, with interviews appearing in nationally syndicated newspapers as well as on late night talk shows. Final Fantasy probably generated more hype among a partiular fanbase but No Man's Sky caught the attention of gamers and non-gamers alike......and it didn't deliver.

Why is BOTW on the list but not Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 etc? Is it because it's just a fanboy option because it's not actually overhyped? Also I found Crash very overhyped. The original is better than the remake....

Hard to say lol almost everything seems overhyped these days with how crazy people get before release, then how loud the vocal minority is about hating it post-release.
It's probably No Man's Sky though. That's the only game that has the massive hype but then like 90% completely trashed it. Only thing is you all/they all should've seen it coming. Right from the start it was obvious that game was going to be pretty bland. Just an infinite universe of different colored planets with nothing to do on them but look around. And at what? Pink trees? juzzieb posted... Why is BOTW on the list but not Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 etc? Is it because it's just a fanboy option because it's not actually overhyped? Also I found Crash very overhyped. The original is better than the remake.... And how can this be anything but nostalgia speaking? It's literally the same game with higher quality graphics. The games were rebuilt from the ground up and the devs have even admitted the gameplay is different due to changes in modern technology. The level design, story, etc. are same but the gameplay is different. Slightly, but it makes a BIG difference.

No Man's Sky I guess but if Mighty No. 9 was released in the state it got finished in when the game's hype was in its prime it'd be that.

I never expected NMS to be anything more than a tech demo. I'm realistic about things I guess.
Order 1886 was mediocre, but people didn't expect too much from a stock shooter with pretty graphics. Zelda and Uncharted 4 are both great. Sure, they may have some flaws, but I doubt 99% of fans think it's a flop. |

The Final Fantasy XIII series are good games, but weak Final Fantasies.

A new Zelda is never overhyped. All the hype it gets should be understandable.
No Man's Sky has to be the winner by far.

I don't even wanna vote for NMS because I think a whole bunch of people including myself looked right at the announcement and then asked "But how is that going to work in the long run?".
I vote Zelda because it IS overhyped. Everyone loves it and critics all decided to give it 10 almost every single one, and as a Zelda fan who plays all sorts of games I just can't believe anyone thought this was somehow the best game in years. I actually stopped playing it after 40 hours because I was no where near done. The story was not captivating, the emotions were on the outside and there wasn't any nuance between the lines (I'd argue certain past Zeldas have managed this!), the combat isn't enjoyable enough in itself and you have to do a lot of it, the true dungeons are ruined by being too simplistic and unusually short. Having to rinse and repeat through Shrine Dungeons is not stimulating. Smaller, more focused Zelda games in the past had more of a sense of adventure and more ingenuity put into its level/campaign structure. I just ended up feeling completely indifferent about Breath of the Wild.
Boycott "Games as a Service". Stop paying for microtransactions and obvious bait-and-switch DLC.

i dont think No Man's Sky is a bad game but for sure it was definitely over hyped. I don't think it helped that Sony backed it and advertised it so much.
it's a great game from an indie dev but they just hyped it up way too much and of course it resulted in lots of people being disappointed.
