I never understand what Sega was thinking with Sonic The Hedgehog 2006

  3. I never understand what Sega was thinking with Sonic The Hedgehog 2006
As many know Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 was suppose to be the best Sonic game moving from SD to HD graphics. There was features shown like day and night functions which looked good and others I can't remember.

But what was Sega thinking in rushing the game while leaving so many problems in the game.

Here are the known problem of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006:

- Rushing the game
- Game has lot of bugs
- Games has lot of glitches
- Poor camera control
- Poor physics
- Some stages able to fall through the floor
- Content and features removed due to game being rushed
- No patches to fix the gameplay of the game
- No Chaos garden
- Pay DLC on a broken and not 1 but 7

Wth Sega was literally begging for the game to fail with all the negative points of the game. Sega release a broken game and didn't release any patches to fix the game up. Sega even had the nervous to charge DLC and not just 1 but 7 for a broken game.

Sega got a bad reputation thanks to this game, the fans are not at fault for the game being garbage that is all on Sega.

They rushed it to release for the anniversary. Most of your points are a result of that.
'Come fight beside me,' I said to myself, and although it doesn't make sense, I held my own hand as a small sign of trust, and together I made my defense.

I heard it was a result of pressure and fan demand for SEGA to get the game out.

Well, as bad as Sonic 06 is, it's far from the worst game of all time, and at least its soundtrack is fantastic.
Come check out Iido's Gaming Den for let's plays 'n other stuff! Tons 'n tons 'o games! :D https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwqZW13u9eQiTvhqKG1L6Eg

I did some reading around and it was just a series of bad events that caused the game to have multiple development issues.

- Yuji Naka leaves Sonic Team causing them to lose direction
- Sega wanted this on the Wii as well. Once the dev kits arrived, they realized that the Wii wasn't powerful enough.
- Sonic Team is split into two. One to work on Sonic 2006 and the other on Sonic Secret Rings.
- Deadline approaches and the team is short staffed, so they rush it out despite the mess it's in.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

if that game never happened, sonic 06 would have been finished on time and would have been a much better game

its true, but you cant change the past, so you can only really answer that sega "bit off more than they could chew" in regards to how quickly they thought they could finish secret rings (which was also not a good game U_U).

even if the game were "finished" it would probably still be janky like and weird, considering the dev team
i'm not sure what all the "amazing potential" is that all the fanboys claim it is

secret rings doesn't get enough hate, btw

Yeah, it's fucking dumb, but you may as well ask why bad games are released at all. At some point, you need some kind of a return for what you've invested. As far as Sonic 2k6 specifically, Sega probably figured that, hey, the game functions in that it launches and can theoretically be played to completion, that's good enough and the Sonic branding will do the rest of the work.

My biggest question is why did they go back to the adventure style? They already saw in Heroes,Advance,Rush etc. that Sonic fares better in an old-fashioned gameplay-focused style.
Hail Santa
The sad thing is Sonic 06 still is more impressive than Sonic Forces.

how is ripping off sonic adventure more impressive than ripping off generations?

You tell me. Nevermind it at least was aiming for different level design than Adventure 2's corridor platforming.
Illuminoius 22 hours ago#14
but 06's levels were ridiculously linear
when it wasn't a bunch of literal corridors or tubes it was tiny platforms forming a straight path over a gigantic death pit

it only had the illusion of being deeper by having minor segments like the knuckles areas that were slightly more open but not really open
at the very fucking least, forces doesn't seem to have sections where you tediously kill enemies to open gates and boxes

This. A polish version of the game would at best be a C+/B- game. It's doesn't have AAA potential at all.

This. Some money is better than no money to a suit and I'm sure SEGA had Sonic 06 earmarked to carry them in that holiday season.

Can anyone honestly remember the last good sonic game?
25+ years of gaming taught me one important life lesson. You normally don't have to push start at the main menu.

They had two straight years of good ones with Colors and Generations.

Plus, if you want to count them as Sonic games -- he is the star -- Sonic & Sega All-Stars as well

Because nobody ever cared about the spinoff games outside of the diehard fans.
[ This space not for rent. ]
Secrent Rings only further crippled 06's development thanks to them deciding the split staff and have them work on different projects.

No, that was too flawed.
And even though I still don't care for Boost gameplay, at least Colors was fun from start to finish.

Getting really good at it was required to unlock Green Hill Zone in SA2.

And if getting rid of it meant Sonic (and Shadow in SA2) could've had an extra level or two, then that'd be the easiest sacrifice to make.
