They better even xbox sold 3.34 mil in US from aug to dec. Jan-Jul xbox was only 1.27 mil. PS4 sold 6 (2.8mil US) mil in Nov-Dec alone ww out of the 17.5 mil sales for 2016.

Lol, they're not "ramping up". They probably have a few million units in a warehouse somewhere that they're trickling out to keep the supply low, because for some reason, orchestrated shortages work for them. And then around the holidays, Switches! Switches everywhere! What convenient timing for them to magically have more Switches! Let's be honest, they could ramp up production right now, but they won't.

The Wii's supply problems were nowhere near as bad as this and that was bought in much larger quantities. Can't you just admit that Nintendo is incompetent in anything other than software, which they mostly excel at? They made stupid, conservative decisions that caused this entire mess, they could've sold like 150% the amount they've sold so far if they got their heads out of their asses and made plenty. It's been 5 months and you can't get the damn thing at MSRP online. It's either Nintendo doing malicious, immoral business or Nintendo being completely incompetent, and I doubt it's the former, as spiteful and hateful towards their most loyal fans as Nintendo is, I doubt they'd be this stupid intentionally.

I stopped believing in artificial scarcity when it stopped happening, after like a month, Nintendo does use this pathetic tactic with the Metroid Legacy Edition, NES Classic and SNES Classic and they used it with Switch at the beggining, but after a month it was clear they just didn't make enough Switches and since they're so obsessed with making a profit on each system sold they couldn't just pay up for higher production and outbidding Apple for parts. Maybe they'll stop bleeding fans when they actually invest some money in keeping those fans happy and understand that these things are fixed by eating short-term costs.

The main reason companies don't explicitly say "Christmas" is because too many times, someone has decided to raise a fuss about it and it ends up becoming a PR nightmare. They just say "Holidays" now because it's just not worth dealing with a PR nightmare when someone decides to get really vocal about it.

Hmm, well, an increased supply for the holiday season is to be expected. It's a matter of how much of an increase we'll be seeing.
3DS, in its first holiday quarter (October to December 2011), shipped 8.36 million units, for a lifetime total of 15.03 million. Its total for that fiscal year was 13.53 million. Nintendo made a forecast of 10 million for this fiscal year for the Switch, lower than the 3DS's in the same timeframe, but they planned to produce more than that. With Switch outpacing the 3DS in sales so far, I think it is likely that we will see an increase in this forecast, possibly by the end of this quarter. If this article's report of a planned production of 18 million units with readiness to scale up if necessary is accurate, then Nintendo should be ready for a big holiday season. Those are Wii-like numbers.

Holidays generally refer to between November and December, with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas. "Holidays" pretty much always means that.
