You are why I made this topic DS4 is f***ing garbage There isn't any way to hold it without my thumbs constantly sliding off the sticks. It's fine for RPGs but any action games likes Nioh or even Terraria in boss fights it's damn useless as a controller. |
Playstation controller (any model really) is the best.
The worst is probably some obscure one no one cares about so I'll just pick N64 since it was a major console and is just ridiculously stupid.
I am snazzier, hot, hot rant. Warily slight as.
Croak rush, OK? Weirder, almighty make out. ::) |
Best: 360 and GameCube
Worst: Original Xbox controller (giant hand size), Dualshock controllers (child hand size) |
DS4 just feels perfect for the types of games I play with it
mainstream controllers? prolly the N64. worst could be something else, but out of the ones I have the most experience with that'll win |
You know actually I may have to change my vote. While the N64 controller is just patently stupid, if I had to choose between playing a game with it, or a Wii U Gamepad thing...I'd probably go with the N64. >_>

I love the Dualshock 4 and Gamecube controllers. They're at a tie for my number one. They're both so comfortable to hold. The DS4 is weighted perfectly and the Gamecube controller has the most comfortable shoulder buttons I've ever used.
The Sega Genesis controller is my least favorite. The buttons are squishy, the shape is anti-ergonomic and the lack of buttons is embarrassing, even for its time.

It simply allows you to track your targets while you fine tune your aim because a joystick has less range of movement. I've played both PC and console shooters plenty, and PC shooters were not more difficult. They were close to identical in difficulty. The difference is in the skill ceiling, not the skill floor.

Target tracking is a mindless mechanic that assisting does almost nothing to impact the gameplay negatively. It isn't hard to track your targets with a mouse. You do it effortlessly with your subconscious. Aim assist is basically going "okay we assume you know how to do this extremely simple task so we'll take care of that for you in order for you to focus on the actual aiming since your joystick can't do both at once".
You admitted your experience with the genre was almost entirely one game (PlanetSide), and I assume that means you have limited experience with console shooters by extension.SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SlG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SlGweapon_d00d816 posted...Target tracking is a mindless mechanic that assisting does almost nothing to impact the gameplay negatively. The entire argument here is that joysticks are f***ing garbage for shooter games because the games need to compensate for what they are incapable of doing
And what they are incapable of doing is extremely negligible.
The fact that millions of people make do with controllers says that controllers are not garbage, you're an elitist who justifies his decisions by claiming that other decisions were utterly unacceptable.SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SlG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SlGweapon_d00d816 posted...And what they are incapable of doing is extremely negligible.
Nope. Aiming is the entire point of the genre. If your controller has to help you with the easiest thing, it's a damn failure of a control method. The fact that millions of people make do with controllers says that controllers are not garbage

You're misrepresenting the argument. It's not aiming overall that it assists, it's merely one aspect of aiming that it assists. Aim assist doesn't do s*** for fine tuning your shots. That's still all on you.
Also with the second part, I've found it's the opposite. Pitting people of equal skill level, the gap between a console player and a PC player playing each other on KB+M is much narrower than a PC player and a console player with controllers. This is because mice are more intuitive and have greater freedom. You don't have to learn them.SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SlG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SlGweapon_d00d816 posted...You're misrepresenting the argument. Requiring assistance in any aspect of aiming, especially minor ones, is proof that it is not a suitable device for such activities.

No s***. Because dual thumbsticks for FPS games aren't intuitive at all. That's why they need aim assist to be good. That's why it's really not that great.Kind Regards,
DarmikI don't know about overall, but the d pad on the standard release 360 controllers was f***ing terrible. I had to change up my Tekken lineup because several characters became much worse when key moves in their arsenal became complete gambles because that putrid plus-shaped piece of f*** wouldn't work.
Thankfully later releases of the controller got a little better, or maybe I just adjusted to the crap factor. Hooray for being able to spin around like a loon with Heihachi again! All generalizations are false, including this one.The best is the 360 controller, followed by the Wii U pro controller. The worst are gimmicky s*** like Rock Band guitars, but the worst normal controller is the Dualshock 3. 3DS FC: 3239-5612-0115Favorites: X1 controller (Elite is truly the best) and PS4 controller. I also have liked the original Xbox controller S and 360 controller (the one with the convertible d-pad).
Least favorite: I didn't like the way the dreamcast controller made my hands feel after more than an hour of playing.
Special honors: I actually grew very used to the Atari Jaguar gamepad and like the feel of it in my hands to this day. Yeah, it doesn't look too snazzy, but it just handles well.I have a new sig and this is it.I was a PC gamer before I went to console shooters and I never had too much trouble with either.
The Switch Joycons are definitely on my negative list. They're expensive, not ergonomic in the slightest, and smudge/wear easily.
