- Remember when I said VR is a pipe dream money sink that will never take off?
And then CE just called me a troll and said I had no idea what I was talking about

I remember when I said it isn't anywhere close to being more than a gimmick on the level of Motion Control right now and Clear threw a big tantrum that I had no clue what I was talking about.
So yeah, I'd believe the same s*** happened for you. That being said, the reason it isn't going to take off is because the s*** is still being used for gimmicks. If you had more experiences on the level of Elite: Dangerous with full VR it'd see a bigger jump in popularity and casual people willing to put in the investment. |
i tried VR personally using the rift and it's definitely a gimmick. It's initially impressive because of the head and position tracking but the novelty wears off quick. The technology is too primitive. The picture resolution is too low, which makes the visuals awfully blurry. The biggest flaw is the limited movement. You're bounded to the range between the wires and PC - I felt like I was better off sitting and waggling the controllers as if I was playing the wii. If given the choice between a good monitor and keyboard vs a VR setup, I'd chose the former easily

VR will never take off because... it's getting price cuts? products get price cuts because they aren't selling. We can deduce that VR has become stagnant again and will be forgotten like back in the early 90s |

This is actually arguing against your point. Not at all, they're cutting the price because enough people aren't buying units at their original retail price Meaning It's foundering and they're trying to move units even if it means significanly less profit per unit sold CapnMuffin posted... And what happens when you're right? Do you get a trophy? Not at all, I just get to revel in the faces of all the contrarians who will disagree with everything I say even though it's clearly right just because I was the one who said it FightingGames posted... i tried VR personally using the rift and it's definitely a gimmick. Hell they dug of the corpse of motion controls and tethered it to that s***, that only cements my point D-Lo_BrownTown posted... That being said, the reason it isn't going to take off is because the s*** is still being used for gimmicks That's all it will ever be used for as no real non first person game can work in the format. You have publishers like Zenimax dumping a few of their IPs onto VR and they might be very successful but how many devs have games that can just freely fit into a VR format without major expensive tweaking like Zenimax? Not many |
s*** guys they don't even sell 720p TVs anymore I guess HD was a fad

s*** guys they don't even sell 720p TVs anymore I guess HD was a fad Is this bait? 720p was a natural step up from what came before. Things like VR, 3D, and motion controls have no standing as they're only gimmicks to them and will only die out as time goes on |
I was speaking with John Cormac about VR tech two weeks ago. There's a ton of reasons why it's still too early to judge the failure or success of VR. It's so new, no one has even figured out how to fully utilize it. Cinema has a language that's been developed for over 100 years, consider we have only been developing 360/VR content for a few years at most.
Also, these price cuts are to get the technology in the hands of the consumer. The more people that have these the more likely you'll experience how cool it is to be doing this and you'll want one for yourself. John said he had hoped 4K phones was going to become a trend so that he wouldn't need to package the oculus with its own display (which would raise price substantially) and John said he was disappointed when the phone industry didn't take the 4K display route.
