I think it slip ppls minds very often. The portability is the main reason im picking up stuff like xenoverse 2 and skyrim. I honestly dont think Nintendo realize the value potential of the switch when they skim over its hybrid aspect to push it as a home console.
Probably. Power-wise it's like a double generation leap from 3DS. It's pretty amazing.

But they wouldn't be able to get that $300 price to stick with a pure handheld. They already saw the failure with the 3DS and Vita trying to go for $250, even if it was a fair price at the time(for the Vita at least). The home console aspect makes it several times more appealing at that price point.

Portability... I never understood why people are so obsessed with this. When I leave my house, it's to usually go shopping, or to the bank. The only reason I ever even brought my 3DS out of my house was to connect with Streetpasses and get playcoins for steps. If I had a Switch it would sit in my living room hooked up to a tv at all times anyway.

Maybe on the way to your work (train), trips, in your pause, on your couch, in your bed, if someone else wants to use the TV, for going on the toilet...

Yes, because Nintendo says Switch is their next home console and because it's too big by handheld standards.

They're replacing 3DS with a proper handheld eventually. They need a delivery system that'll let them get away with lower budget games. It and Switch will co-exist in peace.

The way you sound like it is like you don't need a smartphone outside the house as well.

You don't need a "smart"phone period.

Even my handhelds I kept home and just played at a table to support my hands.
Now with the Switch. I'm finding that I get pretty severe hand cramps in my right hand when I try playing it in handheld mode. The way you have to hold it or maybe the thinness of it or hell maybe it's just my age. Whatever the reason this one is sitting as a home console in dock mode permanently. The square controller thing works just fine and has an okay grip to it. But most importantly it doesn't hurt.

So, it is too big for a handheld, but should have longer battery life, bigger screen size, higher resolution and more powerful hardware. Oh, and it should be cheaper, as well.
Rolfin 2 days ago#15
I think there's plenty of folks that would care about the Switch as a powerful portable if it was nothing else. I know I wouldn't care though. If the Switch didn't have TV out capabilities, disconnected controllers and splitscreen multiplayer, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

I personally thing the Switch sucks as a traditional handheld. It's wide, too thin, has "meh" battery life at best, and is too big in general to be good at being a traditional portable system. But then again, I also think the 3DS is only fairly good as a portable... The DS was and probably always will be my favorite dedicated portable, because it embraced the things that make for a good handheld.

That's my 2 cents

On the New 3DS it ran fine, it couldn't run outright on the normal one. But yeah considering it's 240p it's actual power must've been pretty low.

I have never understood why people say a product has to fit in your pocket to be portable. Tablets and laptops don't come close to fitting in my pocket and yet I call them portable. I bought a lovely little case for my Switch and I have taken it all over the place, it's amazing to have a full fledged HD console that is easy to take on the go.

Portability is great and very easy and fun with the way nintendo does things. 3 of my friends have a switch. So we can all very easily play together and have our own screens.

My brother has every amiibo. So i can easily take my switch with me and have all of his unlocks. I have friends who have some too so i can do the same when i go over there.

The fact that i can play on my tv is a huge plus for me. People should look at that as if your 3ds could also play on the tv. I would LOVE to play most games i have on the 3ds on the tv. Its a revolutionary step in portability because you have the option to also play your games on the tv with normal controls. I cant stress enough how many 3ds ports id take on the switch just so i can play them on the tv.

Switch is very good for holidays though or just being able to play when wifes on main TV. Portable for holidays and around house or on couch is actually a pretty big thing. Love being able to play on TV or on couch or in bed or on holiday/weekends away. I agree i dont play out of house when travelling but i havent done that on any handheld since the GBA lol.

It is ONLY a handheld to me. If I want to play on my TV, ill do it on a stronger console like the ps4 and x1. I have never hooked my switch up to the TV yet, and never will. I have actual consoles to do that, and the switch is a portable device for me, to eventually replace the 3DS which is on life support. They dont even release eshop games on that thing anymore lol

I almost strictly use it as a handheld, and I mostly play it at home. Yes I can play it on my TV if I want to, but I much prefer the comfort of my bed over the couch. And I just like taking it with me around the house.

I own a PC but if the same game on PC is available on the Switch, I prioritize the Switch version. There have been many times when I was like, "I want to play this game on my PC, but I am tired and just want to be in bed, so I will play on my Switch instead."

People are really underestimating the power of portability. It has more uses than just outside the house.

If you are buying the Switch without caring about its portability, why are you buying it in the first place? That's the whole point of the system!

Even the New 3DS isn't "stronger" than the Wii. It had more RAM, but that was it. It runs Xenoblade slightly worse. But the resolution is really small anyway.

As a pure handheld I don't think it would be doing as well. At the same time that is the whole point of the switch, that it is a portable home console. Undocking and taking it with you when traveling, as well as just moving to the couch to play because other people want to watch tv, was the whole draw of it for me.

With the switch, I can play from the couch and watch tv. I take my switch with me sometimes.... To work or on a day trip. The rare times my wife drives, I might get the chance to play. Most of the time I play after all the work and (good stuff) is done before I crash for the night.
