Surely they are aware of this.

I've even noticed that these Bots have spread to Twitch.

I'm just curious. How can Sony stop this without wiping out EVERYONE's profile?

I doubt they really could. There's no difference between a legit account and a bot account.

That would screw over anyone that doesn't have a cell phone.

Require the account to have 1 purchased game to PM or friend request.

Requiring ps+ would make too much pay wall backlash. Legit players can't really complain about needing 1 game to PM.

They could also require an account to have 1 trophy to PM.

Send code via e-mail then?

Purge all accounts that have
no avatar
no trophies(and hiding wont help as sony knows if you have any trophies regardless)
no purchases or downloads(free to play games and other free stuff that doesn't require plus wont count)

Even your standard account that only plays cod at least has an avatar. Pretty much every bot i encountered lacks all of the above.

I thought they already did that, cause I could swear I had to do verification through email when I made my US & JPN accounts.

It never seemed to matter. My friend's account still hasn't been verified several years later.

Bots have been a problem on Twitch a long, long time now.
PSN: Akimitsu782
The easiest solution is the route I already took. No one except friends can message me. Ahhhhhh. Silence.

I don't even think I can receive friend requests at this point since I believe I blocked those too.

Although I will say that I had fun toying with the bots who kept messaging my one friend before I changed my settings on all my accounts.

You would have to verify every time you turned on your ps4, too much of a pain

I'm already paying for nothing, I won't lift a finger for sony.
25+ years of gaming taught me one important life lesson. You normally don't have to push start at the main menu.
Prevent new accounts from sending messages to players they've never interacted with for a month or so, that would stem the tide, not perfect, but it'd help.

And that way a legit new account would be fine, they couldn't add their friends, but their friends could add them, and that would be that. Likewise they could add people they meat in random matches, just not people found through the search function.

Personally though...just make it so you aren't searchable by non friends in the settings, I haven't gotten any messages since I changed that in the settings.
Just shut the hell up and talk about games, im so tired of the politics of gaming...

Lack of games & trophies is key to identifying.

I think 1 game is fair. I don't want to talk to users that don't have 1 trophy, so that could be optional.

Require a PS unit to register an account, then if an account is made attached to a specific unit, ban that unit, preventing its accounts from accessing online message features. Boom, they have to buy an entirely new console to register a new account. Makes it far too expensive to maintain.

The trophy thing could be the easiest to do, and least annoying. Although I'm sure some people would still throw a fit lol

Some games give out trophies like candy. Some games give you one as soon as you start the game. So if a trophy is required, they just need to fire up a game for maybe 5 minutes, and boom, the account has the trophy it needs. Hell, and usually the games that give up quick and easy trophies are also stupidly cheap. Like that one that was pulled from PSN a few weeks back, that was a fifteen minute platinum, or something like that.

You can't send messages until you have a game (data) installed on your hd. That would fix it.

I was thinking about that and they could also pick up any physical game and just install it for each psn ID. It would be a ton of work though. If they were willing to do that they could probably get around most blocks.

Allow it to call a home phone with a automated thing that reads the number out to you, i've seen online sites that have that if you lack a cell phone. It calls you then says what they are and gives the number you need to enter. I've done it before myself before I had a cell phone.

Microsoft does that with windows verification.

Remote play on pc is what opened the door to this.

Sony wont touch it untill it sees a drop in user base. Technically it's making them look like they have a bigger user base.

Can either change your settings or we get vigilante on them and take them down ourselves.

I recently changed my settings for messages to "Friends only" and it worked like a charm. I only have like 2 friends on PSN, so I don't really get messages anyways, but the bots were very annoying.

Here's the thing, though:

Having to do that every time you send a message? PITA for regular users. Initial setup? The people running bot accounts make a bunch of accounts all at once, then set them to spam later on after initial setup is done. If my usual process was readying up 50 accounts before setting them to start spamming out s***, then I might bump that up to 80 or 90 before I start spamming - more initial set-up work, less frequently I need to do it later on.
Stupid, stupid rat creatures!!!
