I lost mine a few years ago and saw one for 55$ and it comes with box and manuel and is in good condition. Is it worth that much money? Or should I just get the virtual console releases for 10$?

i mean it sounds like you played em before is it worth it to you? personally i found HG/SS insanely boring and i would never play them ever again without at least AR cheats active to speed them up a lot (seriously that instant text and instant health bars code is blessed) then again most people around here seam to really like the games.

I personally dont care for all the ripped platinum content and would rather just play plat. I didnt care much for pokemon following i hated the gym leader rematch system and the pacing of HG/SS throughout their story mode is really bad. I also hated the removal of things like the vs seeker or the removal of the poketch or the annoying berry system they change it to. plus even things like Apicorns just feel like everything in HG/SS is just slow for the sake of being slow. even the PC and navigating around for items (although its a nice UI if you use the touch screen but I dont)

the retro GBC ones will likely have some nice stuff for the newer games at least. im pretty sure you can get hidden abilites for guys from R/B/Y at least (i didnt buy them cause i own all the pokemon games thus i still have FR/LG which are compatible. and dont care enough to rebuy a 3rd time)

Being willing to spend $55 on a Pokemon game.
Playing: LoH: Trails in the Sky The Third
PENGUINS! Get Trails in the Sky AS WELL AS COLD STEEL and support XSEED for their hard work!
Absolutely not worth it. The games are slow as hell and become boring rather quick. BW2 are better purchases and cheaper.

HGSS were good games...for their time. But nowadays it just aint worth it especally for the high prices and chance of getting a bootlegged copy. They run on the slow 4th gen engine, copy pasted the battle frontier from Platinum, All of the legendary pokemon can be caught between 6th gen games onward(they are a pain in the ass to transfer over from 4th gen) and GS are only 10 bucks while of course HGSS are rising in price every day. I had great memories with HGSS during their heyday. But GS will be much more worth it, they have good charm to them as well.

So in the future I can sell it for even more money than I bought it for?

No way, the originals are better anyway, Crystal certainly is at least.
Mods are pathetic SJWs who abuse their administrative abilities and couldn't muster a logical defense for their actions to save their lives. Worthless.

Looks like a lot of nut hugging for the original GSC games. Certainly no one thinks the original games are better than the remakes. Just saying.

Remakes are obviously better. If you REALLY want a Gen2 game, wait for Crystal to come out.

Well, since you already played it you can answer for yourself. Needless to say that gold and heart gold are two very different games even though the latter is a remake of the first one. I personally love the game, but it became very overpriced. I got mine 3 or 4 months ago (I skipped it when it came out because I wasn't in the mood for a remake) and payed 40 euros (around 47 dollars) with box, manual and pokewalker. Everything included and in very good conditions. It's high compared to other games (again, stuff like FE shadow dragon or Dragon quest V may cost more, at least in Europe), but you won't find it at a lower price easily and if everything is included (pokewalker and carboard box in particular) the price isn't that bad. If you decide to purchase, my advise is to wait for a complete one in that price range.

I actually don't care for many of the additions.

Well any Pokemon fan is going to say, yes Pokemon Heart Gold or Soul Silver is absolutely worth $55 it's the best entry in the series because it has region and characters of the first Generation combined with the second.

However is it worth $55 to anyone else? If you love RPG's then absolutely, Pokemon Heartgold and SoulSilver are extremely well balanced RPG's that maintain their challenge from the very start of the game to the very end. The games have a s*** load of content and variety but in order to attain the better Pokemon or the rarer items such as evolutionary stones or TM's for learning powerful moves you do actually have to make some effort in unlocking them in this game which makes Heartgold or SoulSilver a remarkably rewarding experience. The games story is fairly on the surface but it more than makes up for it with exceptional lore and world building.

If you're not a fan of those type of games then I really don't know what to tell ya.

The originals do hold up very well on their own also but they do lack the tweaks introduced in generation III and IV as well as the Pokemon introduced in those games.

It's not the additions that are the issue it's the fact Pokemon GSC stores both the internal clock data and save data to the internal battery. That means once that battery runs dry all save progress is erased and good like finding a copy with a working save battery. 3DS VC is the only way to go when it comes to the original nowadays but at least you can get box if you pre-order in the UK.

This. It's just that HGSS feels like a love letter to the GSC days. Unlike ORAS, it actually has a lot of the bonuses that Platinum has.

Plus I was able to get a complete copy minus Pokewalker for $40.

agree with everything everyone said, aside from the fact that they're the best in the series. BW2 take that cake for me, since HGSS has a terrible level curve, most cool johtomons are available at endgame and the fact that kanto feels super barren with obvious cut content (Silph Co, Radio Tower, etc)

To be fair this is a legitimate critique. HGSS are my favorites but the fact all the awesome dark types aren't available until post game (except Murkrow) always annoyed me. That said I don't agree that Kanto feels barren in HG/SS, certainly in the original games where no legendaries, all Kanto trainers being level 30 and what not but I feel the remake largely fixed that with some awesome post-game content.

BW2 I feel mechanically is the best in the series since it handles exclusive content and game interaction better then any game in the series. I love the Unova Link, being able to catch all N's Pokemon from the previous game and the medal system which I consider underrated. That said, making the difficulty select only available post-game and making the modes exclusive to each game is relentlessly stupid almost as much so as S/M's making clothing version exclusive.

BTW Seamusohennessey I'm glad you managed to get your copy :) I remember your thread about that.

SoulSilver is the best Pokemon game ever made, definitely grab a copy now before they get more expensive.
