So I wanna start Fire Emblem. I've never played Fire Emblem or a game like it, so yeah. Basically I want a FE game with good story and isn't that hard. Thanks! :D
I mainly play minecraft, ACNL, and overwatch!

Mine was awakening and now I am in the middle of going through EVERY fire emblem game. I would recommend awakening

Normal/Casual Awakening is really easy. Almost too easy. Story is okay, it's generally not a super strong point in most FE games.

One of the GBA games. 7, preferably.

Go with hard classic for awakening.

I'm play normal classic in conquest and there are easy ways you can dodge enemy just to complete the map. If awakening as far as i know a lot easier. To have any challenge at all, go with hard classic.

Honestly, any of them should be fine. Well, perhaps with exception to the one on Wii since it's a direct sequel to the Gamecube one, but neither of those are easy to get hold of anyway so that probably wouldn't be a problem.

I didn't like Awakening, it's more grinding than strategy
SaturnSnowman 2 months ago#12
Started with fire emblem 7 on gba and to this day I would still say it's the best. Some people would say awakening on 3ds and that one is good too.
I like games and anime. My favorite games include the following: Mother 1-3, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Cross, Zelda LA-ALttP-OoT-MM-ALBW, and Super Smash Bros.

This. Fire emblem 7 binding blade is a good start. After that go for fire emblem 6 sword of seals. It's a direct sequel to 7. After that the final gba game is fire emblem 8 the sacred stones. But the story in that game has nothing to do with the first two games.

Seven's the best.

It's got a nice tutorial, a great variety of map design, and the story is actually bearable from Chapter 12 and onwards because of Lord Hector, who is far more fleshed out as a character than 99% of the entire Fire Emblem cast.

Wide classes of characters, superb BGMs and sprite work; one of Intelligent System's best game alongside Fire Emblem 3 and 4.

Either 7 or 8. 8 is a little easier but there is a traversable map and you can grind character. In 7 I know you can do the arena abuse in like 3 maps. Gaiden/Echoes is a cool one to start but this one is different than others.

I would avoid Echoes or Radiant Dawn as a first game and the other choices would work out fine. Maybe Shadow Dragon is a lesser choice because it's still rooted in the NES era, but being the first game in the series it's not exactly a terrible first choice.

Why would you even want to arena abuse in the first place? The game is paced to be adequately challenging without any arena usage at all.

So are Fates and Awakening, but some complain about being able to grind in those as well.

The only correctly paced game here is Conquest Hard/Lunatic, depending on your level of interest in strategy games.

Both Birthright Lunatic and Awakening Hard require broken setup to be manageable without a single "random" battle. And on top of that, their level design is incredibly tedious and unrewarding.

I... what? You're doing something wrong if you HAVE to grind or use broken setups. Lunatic/L+ Awakening, sure, but otherwise, yeah, no. Most of the maps are bad, though, yeah.
Salocool  echo chamber loser2 months ago#23
Awakening Hard start throwing incredibly overpowered units by the half game, and the best way to tackle this is to low-man with Def-Heavy pairings, which in my view is a broken setup given how the game allows for a full army. Nosferatu/Defense is probably the optimal, most painless way to do it.

Similar thing happens in Birthright Lunatic near the 60-80% mark, with enemies jumping out in power like crazy. Paired!Ryoma is then required on Lunatic to take on large swaths of the enemies by himself, otherwise the other characters just cannot survive the massive spam of seemingly randomly generated units.

If you have a Wii U, go with FE7 with Lyn. It's very beginner friendly.

With a 3DS only, it's either Awakening or Fates. I lean more towards Awakening; Fates improved the pair up system, but was a lot worse in story and characters imo. I wouldn't recommend starting with Shadow Dragon (DS game). I have not played Valentia.

Edit: difficulty wise, obviously start with Normal. Your choice if you wanna do Casual or Classic. Classic is what makes the FE series more unique from the rest of the RTS games out there, imo.

FE6 is called Binding Blade. FE7 is called Blazing Blade (though in the US, it's just "Fire Emblem") and is the prequel to FE6. By all means, one should technically play FE6 first, but that game is one of the more highly-difficult entries and so it'll be tough to get into.

Awakening or Fates Birthright.

If you plan on getting into the series, Awakening or Birthright are the best to start with. It'll give you a better idea of what to expect in future games. Move onto the older games afterwards.

You can't really say that for sure. Additional, I don't really think there is a significant benefit to choosing a game based on how the newer entries might turn out.

It's very likely that future installments will be closer to Awakening and Fates

The benefit is you'll be more familiar with how the games work now.

When starting in a series that's evolved over time as much as this one, starting with the more recent ones is usually better. You'll be less shaken up by the leaps the series has taken since then.

I wouldn't recommend someone looking to get into GTA to start with GTA 2 or recommend Final Fantasy 3 to someone in looking to get into that series.

Fates has multiple paths with different design philosophies. So closer to Fates isn't really saying much.

Again, knowing how the games work now is not really needed immediately upon entering the franchise. Not to mention that earlier, less feature heavy games can ease the player into the series due to having to learn less in a single game. Playing an earlier game first can help someone avoid a sense of loss gonna from player a new game, then having to due without them when going backward.

Play Blazing Sword ("Fire Emblem") first, and play everything released after it never.

Fates has multiple paths with different design philosophies.

Oh yeah.

In Birthright, Ryoma is your instant win button.
In Conquest, Xander is your instant win button.
In Revelation, Ryoma AND Xander are your instant win buttons!

Such significant gameplay differences!

He keeps on lying about Xander on Conquest Hard/Lunatic.

Xander is atrociously weak against anything magical and anti-knight, and will get one-shotted without any hesitation. He's a classic tank with access to a 1-2 range weapon, not unlike Effie with a Javelin, and cannot under any circumstances lead the army the victory without playing Normal or abusing DLC to power him up.

What do you get out of GameFAQs? You have extreme views that most people disagree with. If people engage you at all it's usually to comment on your reputation. You aren't getting the discussions and the like minded opinions you're looking for. After so many bans, why keep coming back? Surely there's somewhere out there where your methods and views are more common place and you'd find satisfaction.

I'd say either awakening or echoes, fates was a profoundly deficient game imo. Fates was the first game i played in the franchise, and i didn't dislike it at first, but after playing through it a few times and comparing it to others in the franchise, i noticed just how many plot holes the game is stuffed with and just how rushed it seemed, especially the revelation arc.
