Overall this has been a shitty gen so far for all platforms.
Instead of innovating gameplay, this entire gen has been about innovating payment models and seeing how close devs could get to the consumer's boiling point |

Sony has exclusives. Xbox has EA Access, and Game Pass which is going to include all new exclusive games day 1, while maintaining the price of $10 a month.
I call it a tie, i'd say Sony before the exclusives on Game Pass. Instead of buying Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2, I can pay $120 for a year to play them along with 100+ other games. It's a quality offering. But at the same time, unless they have a big showing at E3, lol @ Xbox exclusives in comparison. As a sports fan, Sony still has a licensed MLB game and Xbox still does not (I don't count RBI because it's arcade trash) so that's also a big shortcoming for MS.

Microsoft shot themselves in both feet out the door and Sony capitalized on that instantly and basically murdered them dead.
Microsoft went full zombie though and have actually done great things for gamers while Sony has done fuck all and basically told all it's consumers to fuck off

Overall this has been a shitty gen so far for all platforms. This, kind of. Sony has been in the lead for most of this gen, and deservedly so with a better library of exclusives. Xbox has had a few strong ones early on (Halo MCC, Sunset Overdrive, Rare Replay, Forza Horizon series) but not much in the last couple of years. MS has done far better things on the business side, with their game pass, backward compatibility, PC cross buy, etc. The One X is also a much better upgrade system than the PS4Pro, and I would probably recommend that as the best entry point to the generation to people who havent got a current gen console. The winner of 2017 was the Nintendo Switch; they just stomped right out of the gate with 2 big top-quality first-party exclusives, and a whole bunch of solid ports and indie titles. Remains to be seen if this will continue, though.

Nintendo frantically trying to stop it's sinking ship. xbone constantly dealing with fuck up after fuck up. (buy Kinect) Sony wins because it can go two weeks without being an utter embarrassment

They got high of the success of the PS2 and decided to tell their consumers to piss the fuck off. Now that the PS4 is the clear sales winner of the generation so far, Sony has taken that same attitude again. You'd think they'd be more careful though because Playstation is about the only thing Sony as an entity does remotely fucking right

When it comes to 'winning' it's hard to argue against Sony. Since the PS4 launched it has been a runaway hit. After that first year it was basically impossible for Microsoft or Nintendo to ever recover and overtake the PS4 sales without Sony majorly messing things up. Which they didn't. Since 2013 Sony have basically dominated both hardware and software sales.
They're even beating Facebook's Oculus and Valve's Vive in the high-end VR space. Nintendo has managed to recover with the Switch and we'll see how Sony and Microsoft market their next gen consoles. It's going to be hard for Sony to mess up the momentum they have going into the PS5. It'll be interesting to see how Sony and Microsoft will try to one up each other. I don't think we're gonna see either of them having a shitty reveal.

Nintendo has been killing it. Most Sony exclusives are pretty trash. Waiting years for something to drop only to be massively disappointed seems to be the norm. Xbox is a great media outlet.
I have all 3 and I like my Xbox and Switch the most tbh.

I have both systems and PS4 is definitely the better system. Its just unfortunate that all my friends got xbox cuz they are fucking fanboys, so I had to get that too later on.

This gen has been kinda shit because all the AAA developers have gone full blown anti-consumer. PC gaming has also gone sour lately due to crypto jacking up the prices for GPUs and RAM. Aside from a few select amazing games (Divinity: OS II, Bloodborne, Mario Odyssey) most games have been early access pay-to-win hellzones (the whole battle royal genre), rushed out garbled messes (Mass Effect, MGSV, Destiny 2), or an unholy mismash of both.
