- Supply shortage/stockpilling: debunked
Switch sold over 60k units this week and ~90k units the last 2 weeks.
Which means that over the last 3 weeks Nintendo "stockpilled" enough units for at least 9 weeks (considering it was selling ~20k units/week). Which means they've been "stockpilling" for more than 2 months now. Which means there never was a supply shortage. Which means they never stockpilled anything. Which means Nintendo deliberately underproduced units because they knew demand wouldn't surpass 20k units/week until Splatoon was released. TL;DR: artificial scarcity confirmed.

Warrior - Because i usually pick the Warrior class in MMORPGs when i played them.Linetrix is bad at arguing, but he is absolutely correct. None of the Nintendo Defense Force excuses make any sense whatsoever.
You can't argue that Apple is snatching up all the "NAND chips" so Nintendo can't use them then claim they temporarily increased production "in advance" to suddenly flood the market for Splatoon 2's release. If it was a "chip shortage" issue, Nintendo would flat out be unable to increase production. And yet.....
And Nintendo themselves destroy the narrative that they are having "chip shortages". They flat out said they plan to ship 18 million units by March 2018 when they've only sold the rather low number of 4.6 million worldwide in four months. (HINT HINT.)
But hey, you know what does make perfect sense? Nintendo stockpiling Switches so they can immediately ship them out when they know there's going to be a real demand for them so they can try to avoid the same mockery they endured for the entirety of Wii U's run.
Wii Us on shelves and under 5 million units sold in 4 months = lolNintendoomed.
Switches flying off shelves and under 5 million units sold in 4 months = hot product! Nintendo underestimated the demand!
And then when Super Mario Odyssey comes out and people really are going to be scrambling to get them..... suddenly there's going to be much more stock even though they JUST ramped up production..... allegedly.
It's a defensive tactic to make their investors happy while selling only slightly better than Wii U in the same timeframe. It's about protecting the already damaged Nintendo brand by covering up poor sales. (Outside of Japan, the least significant market.) Do you people know nothing about business?
.....Don't answer that question, I already know. After all, I've seen plenty of the same people on the Wii U board coming up with similar excuses to try to explain why Wii U wasn't selling so well. Nothing is EVER Nintendo's fault.
But why you people would even try to argue against the artificial scarcity is entirely nonsensical. The narrative makes Nintendo look smart. Shouldn't you embrace the notion that Nintendo is good at business again?
Also, NES Classic. Mind explaining THAT one?I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to the death for my right to fight you to the death. -Stephen ColbertMr_Big_Boss posted...Comyx posted...

Yeah, you read it right: Japanese people line up to take part in loteries to be able to buy a switch.
Also, the Switch is STILL constrained. There are still lines happening. your logic would sort of make sense if the suply constraint had stopped, but it hasn't, even after a 100k, a 90k and a 60k week. It's obvious that Nintendo held units to sell more copies of splatoon 2 (people buying a console are more likely to buy a software that is releasing alongside it), and then there's also the fact nintendo announced that the production of Switches would increase in July and August, which is exactly what happened/is happening.Radiant Dawn is the worst Fire Emblem game. The fact here is Nintendo is guilty of doing something like this.

Wii didn't really have a shortage more than it was a raging sales craze. DS didn't have much of a significant shortage problem. How could they increase production when there is a parts shortage?
they had planned to ship 2 million units the first month and it sold out a lot faster than they thought. they were not planning to produce as many units as they are going to produce this year.

people seem to think because there is a part shortage they are not allowed to make any consoles at all. so any extra systems you see were really just sitting in warehouses because they cant make anymore!
your statement or questions asked how they can increase production with parts shortage. and I just answer it. they could have started with more units at launch but they were not forecasting to sell that many.3DS FC: 2063-0061-2915

But why you people would even try to argue against the artificial scarcity is entirely nonsensical. The narrative makes Nintendo look smart. Shouldn't you embrace the notion that Nintendo is good at business again?
Why would we argue against the artificial scarcity narrative, @Endgame? Because not a single shred of evidence has ever been presented to support it while evidence that goes against it is readily available from all kinds of sources, including official ones! Y'all point at the numbers and go, "See? This CLEARLY proves that the shortage is do to artificial scarcity and disproves literally every other possible reason!" You wanna know what's ironic about pointing at these numbers to prove your arguments? Y'all will turn right around when seemingly positive numbers appears and point out how these numbers don't necessarily mean anything for the Switch in the long run.
I'm fully willing to accept the possibility of an artificial shortage, along with the possibility that these numbers supports this claim, but without any actual tangible evidence that proves it, it's nothing more than a possibility. A theory.
Also, it's hilarious that you claim that Linetrix sucks at arguing when at the very least he responds when people call him out. I mean, his response usually doesn't amount to much, but hey, It's a lot more than what you provide.
Speaking of @Linetrix, I've got a bone to pick with your "Nintendo fanboys and their conspiracy theories" Now, I can't speak for my fellow fanboy, but my arguments are based on tangible evidence and what official sources claim. That's the complete opposite of a conspiracy theorist. You, on the other hand, believe in a narrative that goes against what official sources claim and lack any concrete, tangible evidence to support it. I dunno about anyone else, but that sounds like a conspiracy theorist to me. Now, to be fair, some conspiracy theories turn out to be true, and hey, maybe yours will as well, you just might wanna be careful about what you claim to be conspiracy theories in the future."You can't have a nightmare, if you never dream" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic- Boards

Linetrix posted...Switch sold over 60k units this week and ~90k units the last 2 weeks.

Production increase or artificial shortage.
What makes you think those are mutually exclusive? Nintendo was deliberately underproducing Switch units to create artificial shortage. Now they ramped up production for Splatoon. There was never a "chip shortage". They could have upped production any time they wanted since launch. They just didn't do it because they knew demand wouldn't be much higher than those 20k units/week. So, in order to avoid it being seen as a flop, they choose to go with the artificial scarcity strategy to make it seem like the Switch was a hot product when it never was.
Don't worry, though. Sales will plummet to 20k/week again once the Splatoon hype dies down. The chip shortage will return. Hahaha."Links to GameFAQs statistics is trolling. There isn't money to be made by not selling consoles. Prices driven up due to scarcity only benefits the scalpers and their illegitimate business practices. This isn't something that helps Nintendo at all.
Outside of lopsided demand to supply that would make consumers covet the "rare" Switch, how does this benefit Nintendo? People who can't find a Switch don't buy one, people without a Switch don't buy software.

It only hurts them by not providing the supply when the demand is the highest (first year)
So it really does not make sense to buy into the artificial scarcity conspiracy.

ITP: numbers aren't evidence.
*sighs*
Numbers tells us only one thing, how much the console has sold during *insert week here*
That's it. That's the only thing they definitively tell us at this time. Something that I'm pretty sure you at some point have pointed out in the past when it comes to rather or not the Switch can be determined to be a success considering the seemingly high early sales. Something that I can agree on (something that I try to make a habit of when arguing that the Switch is doing fine is pointing out that the evidence seems to point to this fact at this point in time. )
In order for these numbers to prove anything more is with more supporting evidence. You can not claim that the numbers prove artificial scarcity on their own. You can say that they prove the possibility, but that's it. There are other possibilities that these numbers could prove as well. Nintendo said that they planned on upping production by now. these numbers could simply be showing us the fruits of their labor, or however the saying goes. We don't know. Not without further evidence. The chip shortage you like to poke fun at? Maybe it's no longer an issue. Been worked around or something. These things don't have to last forever, y'know. What was a problem yesterday doesn't have to be a problem today. (Note: I'm not saying that this is the case. I'm not saying that there ever was a chip shortage. I'm just raising a possibility )"You can't have a nightmare, if you never dream" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magicsonicfanaticjtb posted...Linetrix posted...
