now there's something i wasn't expecting.

will this mean VC will be delayed even further?

also, prices on this thing will drop significantly now that more stock will be available. too bad for the scalpers!

Finally!!!!!
Damn, where are all the people who were hating on Nintendo for discontinuing the NES classic, and claimed (as always) artificial shortages etc?

Really makes you wonder.

Just like Nintendo you missed them by a year :P.
PS4 - Because it was the next gen console i was the most interested in.
Warrior - Because i usually pick the Warrior class in MMORPGs when i played them.

The fact that Nintendo have just now decided to announce another run doesn't erase the fact that people had to pay an arm and a leg from scalpers if they wanted one due to Nintendo's awful handling the first time around. The availability backlash could have been avoided had they simply said "we can see how popular this product is, and we didn't predict how fast it would sell out, those who want one for retail price should hold out for a possible future reprint" or something along those lines.
Thank God for Jim!

It was handled terribly but I don't think it was artificial. Didn't the classic genesis not sell so well?

They sell well during Christmas time and they've been around for several years. The demand wasn't as crazy as the NES but it still does well.

I REALLY hope Nintendo learned how to make a proper amount of stock...

I guess we'll find out how badly they screw up the SNES classic stocks before I make judgement.
I am genuinely shocked by that announcement.

Also hopeful that the snes mini will have a bigger production run. Supposedly launch shipments for that are greater than the entire nes mini production run.

We'll find out soon enough.

I'm shocked as well, but in my case it's too late. I got tired of not being able to get one and built a retropie instead. It's why I shrugged when the SNES classic was announced I didn't care either. I do wish the front end I'm using were more user friendly like these are but it is what it is.
This is Nintendo. You have to read between the lines.

What they really mean by this is that they've acquired a few dozen or so defective units which they'll refurb and put up for sale some time next year.

I'd like to know what a real NES Classic box looks like up close. I've heard they exist, but I've never seen one in person.

Hey TC, do you have a real NES? The reason I ask is because I've never seen you ever make a post that's not about the NES Classic. If you like the games on that little contraption, you're going to LOVE what the rest of the library has to offer once you pick up the real deal and get down to some real NES gaming!
Likes: grass skirts, non-stop running, eating, skateboarding, etc.
Dislikes: bats, boulders, eggplant, the evil Witchdoctor, and so forth.

Ask Scalpers, they're the 9% of the population that got their hands on it consistently the little weasels! The 1% who wasn't a scalper waited for it in line or lucked out.

I went several times a week to multiple stores and never saw one.

I think the NES Classic isn't as rare as say... Flintstones NES or Panzer Dragoon Saga... The problem is that as people have said, scalpers did a horrible thing and hoarded them to sell... I heard it was the second highest selling system in April... That can account for at least a few million units, I know that doesn't help.... Panzer dragoon saga had only 10,000 copies made, whereas Flintstones was fewer because it was a Blockbuster exclusive...

There are people out there though, unlike scalpers, who may get bored of the system... Not their thing... and actually have the heart not to price gouge it... There was one dude at GameStop who bought it and said it wasn't his thing, and that he'd sell it for its original price because he wasn't like that... There are some honest people out there...

It is most likely the scalpers who bought up most of the stock and resell them for such a high mark, or else whoever wanted one got one.

Actually years ago I came across something that gave the figures to Panzer Dragoon Saga, it was an explanation as to why there may never be a remake of the game or re-release at least... The number of copies, approximation, was mentioned, because I remember calculating the odds of having gotten a copy of the game at its release... I mean years later, obviously... but it was very low. I can guarantee there were more copies made of the NES Classic than Panzer Dragoon Saga, and more copies than most of the rare titles in the NES lineup. I would safely say that the system would fall under borderline rare/uncommon territory.

Hardly rare, they sold over 3 million worldwide. I could have purchased 10 or more during the life span without waiting in lines if I wanted, but I'm not a reseller. I bought my two (one for each kid) and called it good.

The problems start when 3 million are made but 30 million people want them.

Why play on a plastic emulated box, just get an original NES or download it from Wii Store if the idea is to support games you may have emulated or pirated. Like at this point it seems better to download a NES emulator on a PC than wasting money on a box with preinstalled games.

There's no point in overpaying for it, i.e. today's currently overinflated prices, but at $60-$70 retail, it presents the best possible dollar-per game ratio, assuming you don't own most of the games (or versions that play nice with modern HDTVs). Better than VC ($5 x 30 = $150 vs. $2 x 30 = $60) and with better emulation than VC to boot along with 720p HDMI, and many times better than trying to buy up original carts (calculated to be well over $200, including the hardware if you don't have that).

If you already have the games and play them just fine, then it's not marketed towards you. It's marketed towards people that don't have most of those games, or used to but lost/had to sell them for whatever reason, and need an inexpensive gateway into playing them on modern equipment.

I don't resell my stuff, in other words I'm not a scalper, it's their fault that I have to pay $300 for one, it is their fault that they bought most of the stock and resell them for 5 times the price.

Garbage plug n play huh? I don't think you've actually played a plug n play to compare the NES to one .I'm assuming your better way involves visiting an emulation site and getting them all to your phone or pc.

The only real garbage thing about it is the distribution method, and the fact that you can't get one at advertised MSRP. The unit itself isn't garbage.

The "phone" thing or whatever is cool for people that feel alright doing that type of thing or like 'hacks'. While getting penalized for 'obtaining' such things is unlikely (historically, the distributors have been the ones targeted), the likelihood of getting caught isn't germane in a discussion on whether or not it's legal: You can get away with it, but that doesn't make it legal.

In a perfect world, you'd have all the original carts plus an AVS RetroUSB (or Analogue NT if you're splurging). Original carts, crisply clean 720p HDMI for modern TVs and capture cards, and not emulated. If you already have the carts, the NES Mini isn't marketed towards you. However, if you have to do this from scratch, the cost approaches $300.

The NES Mini, at least at MSRP (see criticism of distribution above), provides the absolute cheapest way to get this games legally. $2 a game versus $5 on the VC, and supremely more for the actual carts. Plus, the emulation quality is better than the Wii VC, and especially WiiU's NES emulation. It provides a simple, easy gateway into not just getting these 30 games, but doing so in a 720p format over HDMI that plays nice with modern TVs and capture cards. Modern TVs don't play very nice with older game systems.

Has anyone built their own NES Classic using a Raspberry Pie, NES USB controller, and NES system / cart for a case? I didn't realize how surprisingly easy and cheap it is. And yeah I own the games before people start going on about piracy.
