Just a matter of time till they end up like sears, the bay, toys r us and wholesale sports (in canada. Im sure there are american equivalents) and tank because of online retailers and the rising digital library. Even best buy and craigslist took a huge chunk oit of them with game trade ins and used game sales.

I give them 2 years max

Hopefully soon.

It's a shit-tier company. Maybe EA will buy 'em off.

Honestly I figure that they will outlast Best Buy by a few years. I figure that Best Buy will go under in 5-6 years and GameStop in 8-9 years at most.

Best buy
Craigslist
Kijiji
Facebook market.

Aside from bb I can buy a game cheaper than eb (who usually sells it 5 dollars cheaper) and sell it for more money.

And yes they will.

Best buy took a good chunk of profits when they started doing game trade in. Now with the popularity of difital download and sales its just a matter of time

They're forever tied to the usage of physical media.

They say they have a plan for a digital only market, but only time will tell.

There will always be a place for brick and mortar stores, just not sure how GS fits without used games to buy/sell.

Toys R Us won't go out of business. Ironically, Amazon is the reason.

If TRU goes under, distributors go under. Which in turn would drive Amazon's prices up, while also limiting their number of options.

So it's in Amazon's best interest to make sure TRU stays open,

Gamestop started selling toys and gamer merchandise so that probably saved them. Sending emails out for Gamestop credit cards probably helps their business because they probably make a small percentage off of initial cards and then they spend the money at their store. You usually spend more money on credit than if you spent what you have in the bank/cash.

They WILL close regardless of what you think. They can only sustain themselevws over christmas so it would be pointless to liquodate then. Now that christmas is over and the ceos got their big payouts they will continue proceedings. Try using basic knowledge next time you comment if you are able to bro

The idea of them doing something so foreign is laughable. Anyway, Gamestop is still my go to place for games.

Reason. 1. I don't care for digital downloads and with my network acting stupid with some of my devices' wireless connections add more to why I don't do this.
Reason 2. When I buy a game I want it at that moment, so places like Amazon will be on a lower priority for me.
Reason 3. I like the more quirkier and niche Japanese games, so places like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy will probably not carry them and Gamestop may have a copy.

They have equity. Its burning off and just a matter of time till they run out of cash. They wont be able to compete with best buy, amazon, digital etc forever. Their losing money everyday to those companies and no longer dominate a very niche market (used videogame sales)and their only response was to sell over priced toys and accessories which wont make a difference in the long run)

Well they are predicting that 25% of malls could be closing in the next five years.

If that happens GameStop is going to loose out on the business from all their mall stores.

If mall closures are any indicator of retail stores closing to online markets like Amazon GameStop won't be far behind.

I managed an EB store for 8 years. Then Gamestop took over the company, fired everyone above the store level regardless of performance, and changed the culture of the company from great customer service to milking the customer for every cent possible as blatently as possible, while paying its employees as little as possible because they're easily replaceable (a message which they made very clear often.) Scumbag company that deserves to go under IMO.

Their stores are fine. Their online entity and customer service are the worst.
Half the shit everyone soils their diapers over with the physical stores are things then can easily say "No" to. People can't handle that, so they raise a stink over something existing they don't like.
Even then, the complaints I have at a store level mostly involve "inside baseball" elements that the regular customer doesn't know, because I have multiple friends who are or have been managers. The current district manager for the stores in my area is complete scum. He wouldn't add one more employee to the closing shift after the female manager went to close, and a customer pushed her into the back room to try and molest her. He (the DM) also told her she was required to work those shifts on her own, or risk being fired.

But let's be honest. "Pissing" off a customer is as easy as simply asking them a question they don't want to hear.

I already don't shop there. You don't seem to get how it works. Business pisses off it's customers repeatedly, customers stop going and complain to everyone about it, other people see complaints and also stay away from it. The only idiotic 12 year olds I see here are the ones that try to censor everyone who speaks out against a particularly shitty retailer.

But let's be honest. "Pissing" off a customer is as easy as simply asking them a question they don't want to hear.

Well if you know customers don't want to hear something, than maybe don't force your employees to ask them these questions. And really gamestop had way more fuck ups than that.

Obviously they aren't pissing enough people off, they are still open and going strong. Many people shop there. The GS we have in town always looks busy so many people disagree with you. I don't go there but there are always people inside.

Who is "trying to censor" you? Get a grip.

They closed over 150 stores in 2017, their sales were in decline to the point where they have to sell phones and toys, and their competition is absolutely crushing them. But nope, they are doing great!

I've actually seen people get pissed about being asked if they wanted to put it in a bag. Poor cashier was confused and flustered as hell and it hurt my own checkout experience as he stumbled to put things into the bag.

    Bunch of whiney people around.
    Shop where you want.
Do I enjoy going to a gamestop and buying a new game and having the employee pull out the disc from a drawer? Heck naw, but if the game is $15 on sale and is normally $40, then who cares that it's already been opened.

I like the buy 2 get 1 free on used games they do all the time. Like today I bought 6 vita games and loading human for psvr for $42 with free 2 day shipping. And even if a couple dont have its case, it's still a hell of a deal. And I can also, always return a game to the store if I wasn't happy with it.

I also have amazon prime, so it's not like I don't shop other places, but you can hustle the fuck of out gamestop if you know what you are doing.
I got a psvr bundle with no out of pocket money, just traded 7 games that I didn't care to get rid of, with the 60% bonus they had.

And if an employee bothers me by asking me too many questions, I just tell him I know the rundown and I'm not interested in that crap, and they just shut up and carry on with transaction.

My town still has 2 gamestops literally right across the street from eachother, and another 2 minutes away, they are doing fine lol.

These are the same kids that think EA, Ubisoft, and Microtransations are dying. Your little hissy fit posts on gamefaqs dont effect a company at all, sorry kiddos.

Honestly, mom and pop stores are worse than GameStop at times.

The people who suggest stuff like Amazon, not everybody is going to use the Internet. Used stuff at Walmart is a joke.

Yeah. Being a customer and a cashier is a two way street. I found being more approachable and agreeable made them more likely to provide better service. One time they even overrided a expired return because I was underatanding.

The EB game stores where I live are always doing great business and that was before they started selling the toys, phones and other crap.

With no other alternative besides amazon these days, EB doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

This is my thought process exactly for why I'm more sympathetic. Its like me wishing a software developer company to go under because of a bogus hardware or game developers because of a bad games. Instead, the best solution is to just stop shopping there and ignore the company. Complaining doesn't help, action marginally helps but you might have to work your butt off to get justice.

Their diversification of inventory will help them to last longer, but they still have double or triple the stores they should, and they'll presumably be dumbasses like every other company that dies and refuse to close enough stores until it's way too late to help anymore. Why the hell do companies always do that, and not learn from it?!?!

Man, the way you all act, one would think that the collective people at Gamestop killed all your babies or something. If you don't like the place, then simply don't shop there, no reason to wish them destruction because you dislike them for some extremely trivial and pointless reason. At such a point, you are just being extremely childish and need to grow up

They had the audacity to ask if they wanted to buy the strategy guide with their game, as if GameStop is the only retailer where employees are constantly hounded by managers to offer addons.

Spoilers: All retail employees are supposed to offer add-ons to increase sales.
We were thinking of naming the baby Ellipsis, but it seemed so...typographical.
