- Unpopular opinion: Ocarina of Time is overrated
Final Fantasy 10 is the real overrated game

What isn't overrated that's popular?

If you didn’t play it when it first came out I’m sure it’d be hard to see the impact and appeal that it had but because it had such an effect on me (was really first game I beat on my own as a kid) I have huge nostalgia for t and like to play thru every few years or so.

I think maybe you could've said this ten years ago and it might've been right, but I feel like nowadays plenty of people enjoy talking about Ocarina of Time's flaws.

"Ocarina of Time is overrated" is one of the most popular unpopular opinions.

Honestly I think OoT is amazing for its time, but I'm not sure it aged super well. It's difficult to say, since playing it today is such a hugely nostalgic experience for me.
MM I feel is superior in atmosphere, characters, quirkiness, etc. Which, to be honest, is where 3D Zeldas generally excel anyway.
Everything has an end, except for the sausage. It has two.

Ocarina Time is insanely innovative. Check out this article
http://www.denofgeek.com/us/games/the-legend-of-zelda/21226/the-many-innovations-of-the-legend-of-zelda . The first 3 innovations listed are all from Ocarina of Time. Lock on targeting, the camera system, and context sensitive controls. Just having one would be amazing, having 3 is mind boggling.

My first time playing it was on the 3DS and I enjoyed it. Granted, it was my first 3D Zelda.

One of the biggest problems I think so many people have when playing OoT is that its innovations are so integrated and improved in modern gaming that you can't really notice them.
Its similar to how the 1915 film Birth of a Nation created so many innovations (talking about filming and story techniques, not the horrible racism) but a modern viewer won't notice them since they've been ingrained and improved in film all their life.

It’s a contrarian opinion, an ignorant opinion, a wrong opinion, but not an unpopular one. Why? Because people hate on popular things just to be contrarian. Is playing it for the first time NOW going to be some mind boggling experience? Of course not. That’s true for so many popular games. Vice City, for instance, feels clunky and like a ghost town. Half Life 2 feels outdated. But they pushed the envelope and raised the standard for video games.

I'm still a little salty over egoraptor's Sequelitis about it. Literally complaining about that pillar before the boss room in the Fire Temple and how jumping over it isn't a challenge. That's not the point of the puzzle.

The problem Egoraptor has (at least in GameGrumps) is that he absolutely refuses to read any information or alter his strategy in any way. He complains about the waiting in OoT because enemies will guard against your attacks, but he doesn't use the abilities that let him break that guard. Most underwater combat in MM took him ages (Gyorg apparently took 90+ minutes) because he never bothered to read the zora tutorial and never uses his shield, so he was killed by enemies that are effortlessly killed with the electric zora shield.

I've never played Vice City, but HL2 was a 10/10 experience when I played it two or so years ago. It definitely was a "mind-boggling" experience. So why shouldn't I hold OoT to the same standard?
I use Gameraven and you should too.

Im not going to scroll back up to single out the guy that said Half Life 2 is dated but.......
You know who you are, and you know you are WRONG. Seriously though, I started playing through again two days ago and just finished up today. Its soooooooo goooooood. Even the levels I hated as a kid are just fantastic. Running away from a helicopter in a hovercraft for half a level only to get a machine gun installed and send that helicopter running scared and damaged til the big open boss fight is just great design. Every level just works and has this flow to it I dont think Ive seen in another game since. You go from a subjugated city to train tracks to hovercrafting through sewers to fighting hordes of zombies in a forgotten Ravenholm to sniper ridden streets to gokarting down a coastal highway to THE FLOOR IS LAVA THAT GETS UP AND EATS YOU to a beach invasion where you COMMAND SAID MAN EATING LAVA to a prison where you have to breach the walls to let in your maneater bugs to that same subjugated city in the middle of an uprising you unintentionally signaled to fighting 5 story tall walking insect tanks with a squad of resistance members who see you as a messiah to fighting through a massive tower fortress to losing your gravity gun to getting your gravity gun back WITH COMPOUND INTEREST to one of the coolest final level experiences in gaming. Even graphically the Orange Box version is so solid, and the facial expression really makes it feel like theres a living being there. I really thought Id have to work up to playing it here and there but I couldnt have been more wrong. I beat the game a few dozen times as a kid and I appreciate it sooooooo much more now.
This is a cool sig

It should be acknowledged for pioneering the 3D action adventure genre, but I do think many games have surpassed it now.

I have to actually agree with Unfair. SS2 is arguably my favorite game, but it's definitely got that 90s clunkiness.

It's incredibly revolutionary and it's probably the most important game of all time for me.
But yes, there are a lot of flaws with the game and literally all 3D Zeldas are better
