GOAT will always be the first Gran Turismo. Or Need For Speed.
Bills, Sabres, Bison, UB Bulls + Buffalo Braves/SD/LA Clippers + NY Yankees
Buffalo -> LA -> Honolulu |
Agreed GOAT will always be GT 1- GT 2 and some of the Rally games on the OG Xbox.
But let's be realistic nothing has been able to touch or go near the Horizon series the last few years. No this isn't subjective it's a fact.

I’ve never played anything even close to as good as Forza Horizon.
It’s far and away the best racer of all time, and it’s not even close.

I think you have to be a forza fan but if you are a forza fan...its kinda hard to appreciate the arcadey-ness lol like why do you have all of this tuning crap if the AI can do +500hp at will? but as far as game world, driving mechanics, graphics...its the best of all time

Nothing tops Need for Speed Most Wanted. I really like FH, but it has gotten a little stale, adding in vehicles and changing the venue can only do so much. Maybe it is because it is an every other year game. If they pushed it out to every two or three years I think I would be more excited for its release.
|
To me, PGR4 edges it out, but the Forza Horizon series is the top active series by far for me though.

Honestly I love Forza Horizon series, but like others, I can't say its the best ever, GT1 and 2 were amazing,FM4, NFS most wanted and Underground 2, PGR, hell the old Colin McCrae rallys which became Dirt.
Best now, yep, by far, best ever, no, but, they do come close |
Hard to say, everyone has really specific tastes with racing games.
I'd agree because it hits exactly the balance of arcade and simulation that I want, has a huge roster of cars, and beautiful open worlds. But sometimes I also want to play some ultra-speed future racer like Wipeout or Redout. Sometimes i want to play Mario Kart. Not sure you can have a Racing GOAT. |
I'm looking forward to Assetto Corsa for PC in September!

RalliSport Challenge was my favorite racing series. I really wish they would bring it back.

I would say yes, at least it's the best arcade racing game of all time. Much better than any NFS game.

No game that makes “slow in, fast out” preferable to powersliding can be an arcade racer.

Horizon is a hybrid. It's certainly not a full sim, but it requires a lot more patience and control than NFS or Burnout. I'd put it in the same vein as the old PGR series, or the regular Dirt games for rally.

To me, PGR4 edges it out, but the Forza Horizon series is the top active series by far for me though. I was actually thinking of getting PGR4 for $3 when I saw it at Goodwill a few months ago but thought since I already had too many more recent racing games like the Forza Horizon series and since it was old that it was too dated. When I got home I decided to check it on youtube and decided it was worthwhile to play after all, but when I went back to Goodwill, to my regret, it was gone. I would consider the Forza Horizon series the best sim-arcade racing series of all time, but obviously for realism there are better sim racing games that I play on PC with my steering wheel and pedal setup. |

I would consider the Forza Horizon series the best sim-arcade racing series of all time Forza Motorsport is simcade, Horizon is arcade. If Horizon is simcade, then it's the only simcade in the world because there is nothing similar to it in the market (and no, The crew is way more arcade than FH). |

To FH? Nah, FH takes more precision than DC (although I’d still lump them in a similar category).

I would consider both sim-arcade racing games because of this with FM leaning towards the sim genre more and FH to the arcade genre. |

That’s more or less what I was getting at, a mix of arcade and sim physics designed to be more fun without being over the top. Something like Forza Horizon and Driveclub don’t feel realistic at all, but they’re not nearly as arcadey as Need for Speed and Burnout.

Imo, fh3 is the goat. The metric I'm using is the s*** ton of time I've put in - but not in a chore sense. I should've been at star level (1k) a looong time ago, but it's been fun enough to just eff around with friends and randoms on pg games, dragging, drifting, and role-playing. I'm only at level 670 or so (have to dbl check) - so there's that. Maybe I'll grind Goliath here and there just to get the star before fh4 comes out.
Tied for Second place, I'd say fh2 and Moto gp 3 urt. put a ton of time into those too, but not nearly as much as fh3. The only other racers I've put pretty decent time into were Sega rally and burnout 3. Super fun games

Id say my favorite single racing game of all time is Gran Turismo 3 but Forza is by far the better series. Its more consistently good and enjoyable and they started doing crash physics like 8 years ago, something GT still isn't doing. Plus, fuck Polyphony for giving me less then 260 cars, i want to be able to own triple that, which i can't since i dont own an xbox. Im not sure how the Horizon games are or what they're even about, i have an unopened one for my 360 though.

Requires little skill. Hate follow the arrow racing in which you can never become familiar with a track because every race is different/bland / unmentionable. I know I’m in the minority.
PGR4, jet moto, Burnout 3, Blur, and Split Second are just a few racers that kill it - also - Sonic Transformed and Motorstorm PR.

I think Forza Horizon picks up where Midnight Club left off, though, when I play Midnight Club, I feel like I am enjoying the career a bit more than the trash campaign we get in Horizon.
I mean, it's one thing to have a million things to do, and 500+ amazing cars, and Hot Wheels was a fantastic addition, but there is something about a racing game that needs structure. Horizon gets it right EARLY on, and then like a kid in a candy store, realizes that there is more to life than jelly beans, and then can't stop eating Gummy Worms until they feel sick, and then understands the differences between Dark and Milk Chocolate, and why Dark is better. Horizon fails to maintain the attention span of even me. My attention is specifically on getting amazing photos while I am also doing some racing. Many games trick me into playing them, and forgetting about the photos... Horizon, somehow, even reminds me to take photos, something that I turned the game on to do. If you can't keep a guy like me, focused on playing your game, because I don't know what to do next, you get a fail. GT2 is still the best racing game I have played during it's time, and in 35+ years of gaming, I have yet to find a racing game that wows me as much.
If what I said doesn't makes sense... it's because you don't want it to make sense.

Racing enthusiasts clearly continue to choose GT cause its The KANG of racers.. GTS absolutely destroys forza in graphics, physics, racing, MP, and its not even close.. Plus lootza continues to have paid dlc, micros, season passes, AND lootboxes.. NONE of which GT has. Thanks for the laughs TC, Press Y rewind

i resort to playing forza because there have not been that many quality racing games in recent history. Its all we got. Aside from project cars 2 and dirt rally imo.
Forza was nothing special when polyphony and codemasters were in their primes, releasing quality games. Shout out to quality arcadey games like midnight club, auto modellista and tokyo xtreme racer which took up most of my time too
