- Will MHW die out now that Switch game is out?
Serious question haven't been following MHW for a while but wanting to get back in and do some grinding. Wondering if the new switch game is going to spell a decline in players and/or Capcoms support of the game?
Are Capcom still planning to release new monsters and content for a length of time?

Probably no.
The number of folks who're gonna swap from MHW to GU is a lot smaller than you might think it is. Especially with World being out on PC now. The folks who own both MHW and a Switch will probably play both of them for a while if not put World on the back burner until something new comes out every month or so.

No. Remember, this board is not representative of the fanbase. I would be willing to put a lot of money on GU selling considerably less than World, given the audience it's appealing to. I think it'll do well, but World did so much better than anyone ever expected.
The experiences that World and GU offer are different enough that those with the means to do so are likely to opt for playing both rather than choosing one over the other. Even if GU pulls a World and, using the springboard of World's success, does extremely well then all that is likely to happen is that both directions of MH get continued on their own platforms. All just my opinion, of course.

I'm not even bothered about GU being old and janky or whatever, I just don't own a switch because a majority of people don't have the time or money to bother with getting 2 different consoles. The majority of poor people. I do feel sorry for the poors. Having to worry about what console to pick cause they are poor. On topic though. You can still find people to hunt with in FU. That alone should answer your question.

I'm too poor to afford a PC, but if I had a good one, I'd rock the fuck out on it. T~T As is though, I'm just alright with having every other console. My main issue with PC is kinda the one I have with Xbox this Gen, in that there're no real exclusives I'd want to get that's out right now. On the flip side, Mods on PC'll definitely lead to a lot of fun. Like DaS1 runs that start on NG+6 w/gravelords, or MHW with full transmog. Plus the cut down on loading times is probably sick too! I wish wasn't so poor... At the very least, I'll keep playing MHW on PS4 and XBO and I'll probably pick up GU and play it too. Actually, is MH Freedom and Freedom Unite the PsP remakes of MH1 and 2? If so, then I'll probably just put them on my Vita/Ps Tv and be able to play those too, yeah? Where does GU fit in on the timeline, and I've heard MHW is MH5, so what names did MH3 and 4 go by? I'd like to play them all eventually.

I'm quitting MHW when GU is out. Only things I'm going to miss are some QoL changes but other than that, World is the inferior game here.
I kinda wish it would come out for PC though. Seeing how that manchild community is treating MHW (too hard, clunky, boohoo 120fps is too loooow!!) I would love to see what they had to say about old-school MH |
People will stop playing World but not necessarily because of GU, but because World becomes mind-numbingly boring at the end.
Having said that, I doubt people who started with World will take to GU because of how difficult it is to remember and take 20 Whetstones and complete quests by yourself.

GU caters more towards players who have played past games and are familiar with the older mechanics and features. World may have introduced the series to a wider audience but I think only a handful of newer players might be willing to adapt to the older mechanics after they've had a taste through the demo.

Of course the World casuals would like MHW. It's best they get away from a proper MH title while they still feel like they're "good" at MH. This is such a common and ridiculous view held by truely stupid people. Skilled or not has nothing to do with GU clearly being an inferior game with outdated gameplay mechanics. Most people will play it because it has more content and that is fair enough but if World had the exact same ammount of monsters and armour/weapons to build then what would be more "proper" about GU? Nothing. The changes in world might of made the game easier but it made the flow of the game MUCH better. Some of you people act like you would still use a hammer made with a stick an stone and some vines wrapped around it than a crafted steel hammer because it's "harder to use" and it makes me laugh.

Been playing MHGen all this week and the gameplay mechanics ARE NOT outdated. Feels far more like a true video game than World. Shit, in World now it takes like five minutes to kill most of the monsters even with randoms. World is far too easy.

Some of us derive our enjoyment from MH out of the challenge. When the challenge isn't there the fun isn't there. World is far far to easy for me personally to get any enjoyment out of. That's why I view it as the lesser game. Also there's nothing wrong with a good primitive hammer and axe. I've built my share of huts with them.

Mhw probably won't die out for a while. If they release an ultimate version of world (as opposed to an expansion) then that's probably the only way.
I'm definitely going to leave mhw for generations ultimate when I can get a switch. To be honest, World is probably my least favorite mh game. I'll come back for the dlc. |

It would be nice if you could add that this was your subjective opinion rather that touting it as if it's an objective fact. The changes in world might of made the game easier but it made the flow of the game MUCH better. Same as the above, except World being easier makes the lack of challenge a real problem. I've spent hundreds of hours fighting things like Silverwind, Hellblade, Grimclaw and Dreadking (for example) because I find the fights to have a level of challenge that is fun to do over and over again. Whereas the nerfed monsters in MHW (large telegraphs, slow and/or ineffective attacks, weaker enrages, etc.) are good for players who aren't used to MH, they don't do much for players on the opposite side of the spectrum. No monster hunter game dies out, I believe. All of the online ones have a pretty sizable online community to this day (I think, never played 3U). All of them will be just fine for a good while, if not until servers simply shut down.
Feel free to ignore me. I don't really post anything substantial.

Some will go.
It isn’t out yet though... |
I think not.
Fans of the series might go to MHGU for the sake of G-Rank and for the alternate weapon styles. But overall I think that world will be a forever evolving game with new continents and monsters added annually. Once G-Rank is released for MHW it will be back to MHW for most hunters.

I don't think there will be much cross over. This is sort of the RE4 of monster hunter. Fans of this game don't play monster hunter and most of those who try it won't like the real version That's actually a very good analogy.

Now, if you said just like RE4 it was a departure from the older titles and brought people into the series for the first time, I would agree.

And just like MHW there will be people that will say it ruined the franchise. If 90% of people like the direction do you really think companies or the 90% care about that negative, vocal 10%?
RE5 and 6 sold more than 4 but the majority really hated the direction of 6 so they changed it for 7, even though 6 sold well."What you made will be unmade. What you learned will be unlearned. And when you're done, you will be undone."
- Ambassador LaquatusAlthough World added lots of cool features and I enjoyed it while it lasted, MHGU is where the best end game content lies.
The Switch game has G rank quests so it's much more Hardcore and will last me for longer.
Both are good games though. If you wanna be the man you gotta beat the man: NeganNot at all.
I put my time in to 4U already, soloing 140 GQs for fun and whatnot. Tried the demo out for GU and it seemed like 4U with some tweaks if you wanted it. Which is good to me. I had fun.
I have less time now than during my time with 4U. I don't think I can grind out another MonHun. GU seems fun enough, but ultimately is not another one I want to put hundreds of hours into. And for about the same endgame as most recent MHs: one/two shot deaths that you must learn to fight against. That or stunlock to victory if you can.appa1314 posted...I don't own a Switch and I believe I am not the only one. Am I getting a myself a Switch for a single game? HELL NO.
