I think it was number 3 in the series. Was a huge fanboy of the gt series for long time on ps1, so it took a long while to realize gt in the inferior racing franchise. Over the years Forza has dominated GT in critical acclaim as the best racing games on the planet and it won't change anytime soon.

Forza 1 and 2 are pretty much carbon copys of GT, Forza 3 was cool, but things get really serious with Forza 4, such amazing game, at that point Forza takes the crown and GT is left behind eating dust.

When Forza 3 released. GT was M.I.A for too long. They had a chance to turn it around, but once Forza 4 released, it murdered GT.

GT is honestly dead compared to Forza. You want single player play FM, you want awesome multiplayer play FH. It started a long time ago because I never really liked GT I think it was truly overrated.
Forza is the class and standard that a lot of studios should look to. |

The day gran turismo released prologue before 5. Gran turismo is pretty and handles good but that's all it has now. Forza is just as pretty now. Gran turismo handles a little better.

Last good GT was 4. 5 was terrible, and 6 was just "ok". Sport was 4+ years in the making and look what they put out. Now that there was backlash and mediocre reviews, they shoe-horned in a small token single player mode. I'm pretty sure Sony forced them to add VR, so that didn't help either.
I think it's time for Kaz to step down. As a 1st party studio, PD deserves better. Online only is nonsense, no matter the excuse, players don't want it, we don't need it and they were a fool (PD/Sony) to implement it. This is what happens when you think you know better than your community, it blows up in your face.

I forgot to add my opinion of when Forza Motorsport captured me from Gran Turismo - FM3 for me.
It might have done with the 360 becoming my favoured console over the PS3 at the time. Also, the explosion of online consoles for me, friends of both realms going down the same road also played a part I'm sure. GT5 just couldn't pull me back. I still have GT6 in plastic. :-/

However I did try GT2 and never liked it. I liked Forza from the start and the big hook for me were the liveries, because I was never a car guy and Forza 3 is where my Forza love ended.
Few Favorites- Ninja gaiden 1-2, Colony Wars 1-3,Xenogears,MarioKart,Lunar 2 GTA:SA,S&K,FF6-7,Zanac,S.Metroid,SMB2,NFL2K5,Halo 2, NG2,Vanquish,Witcher 2.

It is Forza 4. Didn't like 3 that much and 2 was okay. GT fell short for their poor chase cam and extremely poor engine sounds. No livery editor and not much to go on. People like to customize too.

When Gran turismo came out on PS3 that used in game models from cars that were from the PS2 era, that is when the franchise went to shit.

GT aimed for “quantity is everything” and it suffered, doubly so with their longer dev times. Sport is a really good correction but axed too much content in return. Though it’s realistic multiplayer races are second to none currently
Forza had the balance PERFECTLY with 4. Since then though they have prioritized greed and shoe horned microtransactions more and more. On top of their ridiculous dlc release models. At least with 3 and 4 ALL car packs were included in the car/season pass, not anymore, all the while GT releases cars for free in patches now. And then they got overboard with MTX First with tokens you could buy cars with to now randomized loot boxes for stupid ass mods and cars. They’ve also started prioritizing “quantity is everything” like GT has and the quality is suffering for it. But overall is still a better balanced title than GT
Luckily we have other games stepping up to fill the quality void like Project Cars 2 and Dirt Rally.

For me it was when I opted to buy an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3...I prefer to just play video games rather than worry about which platform/s they release on or how many pixels are on the screen.The First Forza was better than the GT at the time... every year since then GT has been playing catch-up. GT4 was fantastic when it came out, but was quickly beaten by Forza, due to Forza having online play.
Every Forza has been a better game overall since then.
The only thing GT has on Forza right now, is a better lighting engine, which makes it look better in photographs you can take in game.

Hmm, I had issues on Christmas Eve for sure (even contemplated asking for my first ever refund from PS), but Christmas day it worked as intended.
It wasn't even Christmas day anywhere in the world at the time reports were coming in that it was fudged up as far as I know, so there must've been a ton of lucky gamers who got an early copy of the game/with console to have that sort of impact? :-P

That is weird. I had nothing but problems as noted in the downdetector on Christmas. I couldn't sign in most of the day, or was getting kicked from games with PSN errors, but never played GT Sport. Even my community feed friend friends and relatives was empty. That’s weird because I was able to play with all of my friends on Christmas Day without issue. Downloads were slowed to a crawl and often stopped without reason, but Titanfall 2 wasn’t dead at all and thousands of people were uploading screenshots of newbies in WWII all day.

Maybe. Is this that popular to knock out server access to a game though? I've heard of some celebrating Christmas weeks early because they go abroad for Christmas (save the hassle of presents), but the day before just because it's the weekend?
We did Christmas dinner on the eve due to the other half having to work a late shift on Christmas day.
Either way, I'm actually enjoying Sport for what it is. It's no Forza, or ye olde Gran Turismo, but being starved of a racer for so long, it is nice. That's generous. I thought GT3 and GT4 on PS2 were the best games Polyphony Digital could ever come up with. What came after was disappointing, to say the least. No longer was the best strategy for cornering to take corner fast and ram your opponent so you bounced off, but to actually think about turning.
