I have no interest in paying $60 for a fighting game, but I am glad Nintendo delivered something to someone other than me this year.

Right... so, yeah, there are two. I was so disappointed by that game, though. How do you make a throwback RPG with a virtually non-existent story? And an extremely formulaic layout. Just another fairly generic JRPG, with slightly more polish.

That's a 3rd party game, but sure it counts.

Well, it sold a million. The fact that there weren’t any games that appealed to you this year doesn’t automatically make the year bad overall.

There are a ton of big exclusives lined up for next year, so just look forward to those.

I'm glad you are enjoying Kirby, but for most people this was not a notable game with a lukewarm reception at best.

I know 2019 will be better. Fire Emblem, likely Metroid, Luigi's Mansion, a real console Pokemon, hopefully a Zelda title. But man 2018 really blew for the Switch. I haven't touched it since Hollow Knight.

The fact that you admit that it's "subjective" pretty much torpedoes the rest of your claim that there is an quantifiable list of "acceptable" Switch titles that everyone can agree is the only true list.

(That said, it is also my subjective belief that 2018 didn't measure up to 2017 overall, even though there were still plenty of low-key releases I enjoyed. It's pretty clear IMHO that Nintendo went all-in on making the Switch launch year a big success after the Wii U's failure.)

What the fuck? Is there some kind of rule you can't put an opinion in a topic title? One that is hard to deny is completely valid with perhaps the exception of Octopath, which I already admitted I forgot about (and is a 3rd party game.)

I didn't know Kirby Star Allies was a fighting game, but okay.

There's this other interesting game called Smash that actually is a fighting game, but it had an extremely disappointing main mode, terrible online, and tons of modes cut from previous games in the series so I wouldn't consider it all that good.

You can beat Guest Star mode with every single Helper and Dream Friend in only 8 hours? That is seriously impressive!

The funny thing is, all the best Switch games this year are actually all Wii U ports/enhancements. Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, Mario Party, Smash Bros, etc. Star Allies sucked and so did Octopath.

But Octopath didn't suck and Smash is neither a Wii U port nor an enhancement. Same goes for Mario Party, doesn't it?
