It seems that it isn't unless you mod the s*** out of it and turn into something... not-Skyrim.

Millions upon millions of people disagree.

It is an open world fantasy title that does enough to make that freedom worth something. It is not amazing in terms of story telling like Witcher 3, but it does enough to keep it engaging.

It also empowers you a lot in comparison to other open world games.

It's very easy to overpower yourself in terms of leveling and it requires enough self control to where I don't have fun playing anymore and end up quitting.

Skyrim is a mirror unto the player's soul. If you crave a game about exploration, Skyrim's got you covered. If you want an action-oriented game about fighting dragons, no problem. If you prefer to play as a stealth-based assassin, then go ahead. If you want to delve into an endless well of lore and world-building, you're welcome. If you're looking to nitpick an ambitious open-world game, there are plenty of minor technical issues to satisfy your anger.

What's not to like about Skyrim?

If you're looking to nitpick an ambitious open-world game, there are plenty of minor technical issues to satisfy your anger.

Ad Hominem.
Never played it with mods. Just enabled a bunch of cheats and ran wild.

The gamers can worry about whether it was good or bad, all I know is that I had fun.
It's an amazing game. People like to point out the flaws but no other game attempts to do as much as a Bethesda rpg does.

Skyrim - and Elder Scrolls in particular - lend something unique to the open world RPG game. I have no problems getting lost and exploring its locales, as my playtime would indicate (222h on Skyrim; 78 or so on Skyrim SE). They are good games if you know what you're getting out of them.

No. The pacing is extremely slow and the story is unmemorable. Deus Ex and Gothic are much better games

I put 300 hours into it. It's fantastic.
Never forget where you came from.

I don't consider it a bad game or anything, just an extremely generic game.

So are tons of other games including the Dark Souls series.
Skyrim is a lot of fun. I don't even play it with many mods tbqh.

The only real flaw in the game is the ending IMO. The quests could have been a lot better, they relied to much on radiant s***, but overall the game was still a lot of fun.

That being said, it's not so much fun that we should be getting E3's all about it 6 years later.

What is wrong with you? He hit the nail on the head. Skyrim had something for everyone. It wasn't perfect but it was so much fun. Modding only added to it.

I don't know if I'm in the minority here or not but I enjoyed Oblivion's location a lot more. Snowy mountains just got old kind of quick for me, but the vibrant colors in Oblivion made me stick with it.

Top 5 game all time for me. Stealthing your way through a dungeon is so fun. Currently on playtrough 4 I think. Maybe 5

They're both about the same to me.

I don't understand how someone can say that Skyrim was *just* Snowy Mountains. That's like saying Oblivion was nothing but trees.

It has a nice world. However, exploring never feels worthwhile in Bethesda games because you never get anything amazing. I would love it if Bethesda games had items that had added effects such as a double jump, a rush/charge, passives abilities, ect... None of them do.

Technically you do as you can find shouts that give abilities. Also all their games have rare items in just about every dungeon

I played the PC version at launch and lost interest around the 20 hour mark.

I'm tempted to try out the Switch version. Maybe playing it on a portable appeals to me more and feels like less of an investment.
Kind Regards,

i bet you play on novice

take your op character and move the difficulty bar to master(not even highest difficulty) and tell me how easy it is now

if it still feels easy go to legendary mode. that is quite fun with an established character
dont know why I even have one of these

I love Skyrim to death. I still play it. But vanilla Skyrim is not good. Ease of modding is the only thing that makes it worthwhile.
Shut your BF28/9 sound hole and listen up.
I came here to laugh at you.

Skyrim was great. Still think Morrowind is the peak of the series though.

The exploration aspect kept me playing but I don't think I can stomach a second playthrough. Clocked about 270 hours on it.

Also, nude mods.

I love Skyrim, have only ever played it on consoles. Bought it on launch for 360 and got the remastered edition for PS4, have logged 100's of hours. It's just a damn fun game, and I always found it fun to explore as well.
The people who don't like skyrim are also the jabronis who actually think fallout 4 is a bad game
