Switch is still a portable, you can play it anywhere

Do you people not have bags?
Do you not have cars?

I don't understand, do you leave your house with no car and absolutely nothing on you?

Are you actually comfortable putting a 3DS or Vita in your pocket? Because my phone, keys and wallet fill up my pockets.

Convenience. Also, it's not just pants pockets. I often have my 3DS in my jacket's pocket. I don't necessarily carry my purse everywhere I go depending on what I am doing.

Defend it at all costs, that is why.
Mods are pathetic SJWs who abuse their administrative abilities and couldn't muster a logical defense for their actions to save their lives. Worthless.
Defend what at all costs? The size of the Switch? Or are we defending pockets?

If you drive to work/school, you can use your car to carry your device, and use it to play during breaks/downtime.

1 Can you play the ps4 in a park , at work , on a bus , on a plane ect...?

2 portable means to be easily carried or moved, especially because being of a lighter and smaller version than usual. - It's smaller lighter smaller and easily carried.

3 because laptops are pcs. A pc can hook to my TV and play games why isn't it called a console?

The switch is easy to carry and portable. I pop mine in a hard shell and put in my messanger bag I carry stuff to work in. My ps4 won't fit in that bag. I only know this as tried to take it to a friend's house in it as his was stolen and his preorder of FIFA came last year. Why are we pretending a switch isn't portable? The original Gameboy was similar in can't go in pocket (hence pocket version) but was still a handheld portable system

Sorry we don't all carry purses like you, tc
The only portables I've ever felt comfortable putting in a pocket were the DS and 3DS, because the screen isn't exposed to anything else that might be in my pockets. Personally, it's never bothered me to carry a backpack to take other encased portables with me.

Chances are that if I'm getting into a circumstance that allows me sufficient time to game on the go, I probably have to bring other things with me too. I know I never carry one with me if I have specific (and temporary) social plans. I just use my iPhone if I have a few minutes to burn.

I travel a lot and take my switch in its case and in my bag.

Did the original gameboy fit in anyone's pocket? Has this ever been a criteria for a handheld? I don't think so.
Lucario39 16 hours ago#42
The simple fact of it is that it's more effort to carry around than it's worth for some people. Yeah, people carry around tablets and laptops, but those generally have a more important purpose than just gaming, making them more worthwhile to take, even if they're more difficult to lug around.

Everyone saying it's not truly portable really mean that because it can't easily fit in their pocket, it's enough of a burden that they'd rather give up playing with it on-the-go. Not everyone drags around bags or purses regularly, y'know.

Wallet and Phone fill up one pocket, key's are hanged by the belt, which frees up the second pocket for a handheld (PSP/3DS XL/Vita). It always been that way for me, so the inability to fit the Switch in my pocket would limit its portability or force me to change some old habits.
I used to have a good signature, then I got modded for it.
Now I shall try to think of something edgier to put here.

I don't personally put expensive electronics inside pockets on a commute because I'm afraid of dropping or damaging them, but I know that's not everybody, and some people want a smaller system that's really portable and can be put in pockets.

Arguably, smartphones serve this purpose for a large majority of people anyway without having to carry around a dedicated gaming device, and Switch's limited battery life prevents true portability without also carrying around an external battery to keep the Switch charged anyway, at which point you will need a bag regardless, unless you're wearing cargo pants with lots of large pockets or something.

3DS lived in a protective case, as does the Switch (when not at home), portables are never something I've had in my pocket, I don't have room anyway.

I carry my tablet around with me in a satchel and is often the only thing in it, I would have no problem carrying just the Switch in it either.

The whole "Why would I bring a bag just to carry my Switch?" question is easily answered by either:

    - "In order to facilitate playing your Switch outside the house."

    or

    - "You wouldn't because you don't care enough about playing your Switch outside the house."

There's literally no point arguing with people about what they could use to carry the thing about because if they cared enough they would have already be doing it.

I can agree with people maybe putting it in their jacket or purse, but pants pocket means you wear some excessively baggy pants or oversized cargos.

Even in those examples though, I wouldn't risk the system getting scuffed or the analogs worn from being bent in positions against your body.

I'm much happier with the larger screen size and comfortable size to grip (while still being portable) over catering to people with extra baggy pants lol. The system is advertised as a portable, not a pocket fit. You have a smartphone for pocket gaming.
It can fit in my pockets. I generally leave it at home, though, since my 3DS backlog is massive. That, also, fits in my pockets.

I mean people who talk like that are generally just haters. You know how big the Switch is, if you don't want to bring it with you because of size just get a bag or a case or both. I don't carry my laptop around in my pockets, I slide it in a case and I am good. I can leave my Switch in my car or even put it in my winter coat pocket. It isn't that serious.

If you really want it to happen you will find a way, people who don't want to find a way don't really want to do it. They just want to complain.

I don't have a 3DS but used to have a DSLite and it was awesomely portable, great for the bus, metro, etc. I got the Switch like a week ago and while I can't comfortably carry it in my pockets it's cool just to be able to play it in different parts of the house or outside at different times of the day, or take it with me easily on trips. It's a great portable console and I especially like that you can type on it like you would a tablet keyboard, even something old like Phantasy Star Online would be infinitely better on it. I have a Ps4 and am strongly considering getting multiplats on the Switch instead.

I still think the 3DS has its place due to the ultra-portability, low-cost of game production, and some other factors. I do think it'll be supported for quite a while as a result and I'd like to get one eventually.

A lot of people I know just carry the 3ds in their pockets. I take the bus and no, I don't carry bags with me or anything so it's nice that when i'm walking around I can just quickly toss it in my pocket.

That being said I still think it's portable and bring my switch with me. I have a case with a handle on it, and while not quite as convenient as the 3ds it still works.

I do somewhat hope that they eventually release a switch mini or something that is more portable. The only thing is I do like the size of the switch for when I'm just out and planning to play rather than planning on play, put away, play put away etc.

The difference is, Nintendo has conditioned fans to be used to pocket-sized systems. When Nintendo says "portable", fitting in your pocket is what many expect. Heck, look at Pokemon - literally "Pocket Monsters". And that's one of their big system-selling franchises!

The bottom line is that many are used to that level of portability from Nintendo, and the Switch doesn't meet that expectation. That means people have to allow more space for it than they expected it to take, and not all people have enough space that they're willing to give up for it.

There have been basically three systems that fit in the average pocket, game boy pocket/color, gba sp, and ds lite. All the rest are people with big pockets or that don't care about a portion of the system uncomfortably sticking out of it. That's a weird expectation to have and one that was never advertised to the Switch. That's why they sell so many cases and bags for these things.

As I said neither could original Gameboy. It's still portable. Hell my psp , gamegear and more were same way. They are still portable and the reason people are defending is portable =/= pocket sized.

I'm curious as to what your idea of an "average pocket" is.

Nintendo called it portable. Their previous portable systems fed into the expectation of being "pocket-sized". That's it. They didn't say it could fit in your pocket, but at the same time ignored that expectation, so calling it a portable Nintendo system when it can't fit in your pocket led to disappointment.

My phone doesn't fit in my pocket. I have a holster.

    3. Why do people care so much about the Switch not fitting in your pocket?
