oh i forgot about bravely default and bravely second. is bravely second improved over the first one? Yes. The new classes make better use of the game's battle system and the story doesn't involve you doing the same task five times. It's a very solid JRPG. Also, the demo for Etrian Odyssey 5, the full game is a month away but's it's shaping up to be great. |

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D as long as you have one of the New 3DS. I dunno, I'm playing through it right now and I'm not really feeling it. For starters, it's one of the worst-looking games on the system. They needed to give it a graphical overhaul similar to Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros, with more vibrant colors and some cel-shading. Right now it's a muddy mess, which can actually be a problem during combat. Aside from that I still don't really see what the draw is. Kinda wish I hadn't downloaded the soundtrack because the track list is riddled with spoilers. Worst track naming ever. Anyway, a game that I definitely do wholeheartedly recommend is Dragon Quest VIII. It was already a colorful cel-shaded game on the PS2, so it actually translates great to the 3DSes small screen. If we're counting ports, it's the best RPG on the system as far as I'm concerned. And because no one has mentioned it yet, 7th Dragon III is a great dungeon crawler. |

TC, the 3DS has a good variety of RPG sub-genres, so which do you want one of?
More classic JRPG's, with turn-based combat or with something else? Dungeon RPG's, like Etrian Odyssey and the like? SRPG's, stuff like the Fire Emblem games? ARPG's, stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles (if you have a New 3DS system)? There's not just one RPG to rule them all. LOL. Not when there are enough different sub-genres on the system.

I loved Strange Journey so I'm really looking forward to the enhanced port.

my picks;
Shin Megami Tensei Soul Hackers, Xenoblade Chronicles, Tales of the Abyss, Dragon Quest 7 (8 is also okay--but i liked 7 far more), and Monster Hunter Stories. in no particular ordering. (7th Dragon is also fun) if into the Mystery Dungeon types--i'd suggest some of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games--they're fun despite simpler nature and RNG of typical roguelikes. :) Devil Survivor games are also fun

If you like old school turn based RPGs, Bravely and DQ games are nice choices If you prefer action RPGs, Tales of the Abyss is awesome. If you like monster collector, Pokemon, Yo-Kai Watch and SMT4 (and SMT4A) are obvious choices.
