Will Game Freak meet your expectations?

Expectations... well as a long time Pokemon fan, as long as they give me a game I'm good.

I don't really play Pokemon for the story, it's more for competitions and collecting things.
That said if they gave me better post-story battles and tourneys I would love it.

I'm going to keep expectations extremely low. At least till we actually see gameplay elements.
When gamefreak itself tells you to lower your expectations... you lower them.

Just expect the same game along with its fundamental problems but prettier graphics.

I don't know about Pokemon but Mario Kart?

Just like I said in the other topic, Mario Kart 8 is literally Mario Kart 7 but in HD and it's even worse than Mario Kart 8. The tracks in 8 weren't that impressive tbh.

Deluxe is what 8 should have been since Day 1. It's just typical Nintendo being lazy with their games

I don't know if I'd want full open world for the main series, but it should have much bigger cities/routes at least and the return of actually elaborate cave systems. A return of the 8 gyms and something similar to trials coexisting would be ideal for me.

I love Pokémon and I usually enjoy the games regardless of them following the same old formula, but I always keep expectations low anyway.

I think they could keep the battles as they are (just please, no more "one time" manouvers, Mega Evolutions and Z-moves are enough), but improve the rest of the game a lot. There's a reason battle sims like Pokemon Showdown exist.

They don't like breeding for hundreds of hours praying that this time they'll get the perfect egg

All they'd really have to do is add an online mode within the game that has a team builder, add some optional rules like sleep clause and people will be happy

Of course regular battling would be unaffected

Who takes hundreds of hours breeding? Who in any game released recently? From Gen 6 onward breeding has been a cakewalk. Maybe a couple hours for a whole team if you want a shiny.

That said I do understand battle sims for a couple of other reasons. Time. In game battles take long because of the animations and stuff. Also in game battles could use more "playlists" with different rules. Last for me was disconnects but that hopefully won't be as much of an issue with the switch as it was the 3DS.

It can take hours just to get the right egg because breeding is RNG horse s***. Then you actually have to train the thing and get all its moves and Pokemon does not make it easy to grind at all ever since they ditched the VS Seeker. Even using hacked Dittos with perfect IVs and every nature it's all just up to luck. I'd end up with boxes of rejects just to get one Pokemon and I couldn't care less about shinies

So lets start with the fact that Perfect IVs is a thing of the past. You can get those with a bottle cap at level 100. Which you can earn while you breed and level up thank to Sun and Moon.
Getting to 100 with a team of six level 1s takes about eh, 3 hours if you are bad at leveling up.
Breeding said pokemon with nature is next to guaranteed. In five eggs four will have the correct nature, although all of my tend to come out that way. So hatching 30 eggs, again over exaggerating here, takes about an hour.

So that is four hours for a full team of six pokemon with perfect IVs and moves, and that is with bad luck. Or just ask one of the thousands of guilds that give away pokemon or other breeders that do it for fun.

Four hours is no where near hundreds. so get off you high horse... you don't like Pokemon you like battling there is a difference and no Pokemon game will ever make you happy.

Ok. Let's talk Gen 6.

Let's say you start fresh and have no pokemon. (well your starter)

Go to Friend Safari where there is a Frogadier and the person has beaten the E4.
It is guaranteed to have 2 perfect IVs. Catch one female and one male, about 30 mins here. Each has different perfect IVs. Lets say HP, Attack, Defense and Speed.

Breed the first two while holding a destiny knot. After about an hour in you will get a box, or two, full of Froakies with different stats but at least one will have 4 perfect IVS that can breed with anyone else in the egg group, one of which will have a good nature.

Then you just have to put an everstone on him to guarantee nature and Desitny knot on someone in the same egg group with Special Defense and some other stat that you caught in the Friend Safari. So another hour here.

2 and half hours for the first time out of the gate... but the key here is anyone in Froakies egg group will now be only about 30 mins to breed cause you already have perfect IVs.

But all of this means nothing if you don't play competitively... Why do you need IVs? In game? Friends?
The whole point of Showdown is competitive playing or testing out teams for competitive playing in some format or another.

Give me gyms and give me co-op mode.
"Cool" - mariobro8
Ideally for me there'd be 2 regions, with the 1st having the regular 8 gyms & the 2nd having trials (best of both worlds); the regions themselves would be bigger & have some more open areas (but not fully open world); there'd be more post-game content; & the graphics would be a prettier HD upgrade of what we already had in Sun & Moon, since the graphics/art style still looked very nice in those games & are a perfect fit for Pokémon.

Most of this is trash info. I tried to do exactly this when I first played XY and it took me 10+ hours of cycle simulator garbage to actually do all of it. You're talking about some serious best-case scenario in terms of luck here, because that's nowhere close to how hard it actually is. I've gone through mountains of eggs without coming across a 4IV let alone going further than that.

It's a massive waste of time and a major hurdle for anyone who might want to get into competitive.

Did you use the Destiny Knot?
Did you parents start with different IVs they were perfect in?

These are important. If you are breeding more than two boxes worth you did something wrong if you didn't get at least one 4IV pokemon.

Also if this is not for you I refer back to the comment of ask some guild or person on this site for help... they give away free 4/5IV pokemon like hot cakes in every egg group you could want.

I get that strategy games aren't for everyone but don't blame the game for that.

I'm not blaming the game, I just don't enjoy arbitrarily picking an option (you really can't pick up on a random opponent's habits from one match online) and possibly getting f***ed over anyway because of accuracy, paralysis, confusion, and other chance moves

I don't like it myself but plenty of people do and I don't see why they can't just have a team builder mode for online. It gets rid of all the "hackers are cheaters" people and people who want to play competitively on the real games don't have to waste hours breeding anymore
More on topic, i'm expecting a substitute from badges just as SM did. Seems like a safer bet for them to save traditional gyms for the inevitable gen4 remakes, so that they retroactively look novel again.

The question is, what will they do instead of gyms and trials?

The game would never end as all that comes out of it is you losing every important story battle which in turn negates everything you've done up to that point. It'll end up a game you can never win.

It'd be the worst Pokémon game of all time.

Well whatever you say, Doesn't bother me let's just see what will happen

We'd have a big backlash from the Pokémon fanbase, that's what.

The fact that what would be the worst Pokémon game of all time wouldn't bother you would only give to the trolls' idea of Pokémon fans having low standards.
Corrin was a mistake.
Not changing sig until Ash wins a Pokemon league, becomes a Pokemon Master and/or ends his journey. Started 12/14/2016

I wouldn't mind seeing Pokemon set in a darker, Witcher-ish world. Pokemon are fantastic and powerful creatures and I'd like to see a more realistic rendition of what life would look like if they were real. Some examples of what I mean:

1) Elite 4 being corrupt, abusing their authority
2) The evil team not going "HEY LOOK WE'RE EVIL" but working from the shadows, threatening and blackmailing people, only showing themselves and using force when necessary
3) Stopping with the whole 3 starter pokemon thing. People live in various places and they can't count on a lab always being close with the same 3 pokemon offered to every teenager out there.
4) While we're at it, make Pokeballs a rare commodity. Make obtaining a pokemon to be an event to celebrate, not a box to check. For example, there could be a remote village desperate for water. They only got 3 pokeballs left. They need to distribute them in a way that would enable capturing a strong water type to provide water for them.
5) Let the player join the evil team, just like you were offered in RBY.
You have absolutely no right to complain about a decision you decided to support with your money. Be smart and vote with your wallets!

Gamefreak is making it. They could barely do much with 2D games and 3DS games. I have no hopes that this will be anything but a sun/moon level game with better graphics and a slightly richer world. I honestly much rather Nintendo got some new devs to just remake Gen 1. Adding even more content than LG/FR. Adding Reds experience in Johto even on switch and go from there.
Today is the day: Bomberman, Paper Mario, K.Rool, Wonder Red, and Goku for Smash.

I'm expecting that they'll go innovative here. This is the first time Pokemon is getting a RPG on console so they'll want to go big here. I'm imagining open world pokemon. Maybe with a deeper online component.
