I could just go to i7 then i7-7700k, It should be alot better than ryzen

Are you running a server? Because 32GB is definitely overkill. Save that money and get a 1080ti instead.

Im probably overcompensating with the ram as i might be running alot of programs simultaneously but 16gb should keep it in order still.

If you think you might need more down the road, be sure to have a couple of open slots so you can expand. Nothing is easier to upgrade than your RAM assuming you're set up for it.

Besides the i5 7600k everything else is great.

I would go with a Ryzen 1600x for the same price and it performs much better then the i5.

It's high end in my book. There are two video cards that beat it, and they're on the extreme end of things. I would maybe consider a 1070 mid, but even that's teetering on high end as well. You have to consider what's available, but also what the majority of gamers have and what games require.

Mid to me is the 1060/480/580

Stop feeding the ridiculously obvious troll. This place desperately needs better mods.

The build is fine, but I also agree with either going ryzen or getting the i7 if money isn't a problem for you.

And dial down on the RAM, 16 is more than enough.

There are plenty of sub $100 cards out there like the GT 1030. There is no way my GTX 970 is low tier. It outperforms a 1050ti. Any card that runs the Witcher 3 @ 1080p/60fps on high settings isn't a low tier card.
There's a distinction between GPU and a video card. The GTX 1080's GPU is absolutely mid tier because the GP104 is firmly in the middle of the GP100 - GP108 lineup so...

I mean, it kinda goes GP100/102(iirc, the only difference here is the memory interface) GP104 GP106 GP107 GP108, which would actually put it at mid-high...

But yes, GP104 is a mid-tier GPU in it's own architectural vacuum. GTX1080, though, isn't.

To the topic, the RAM is slow, Intel's processors aren't really great right now, and aside from that, it's decently high end but very far from overkill.

Price doesn't make GPU's high end, performance does.

Also go Ryzen or wait for Coffee Lake. You'll most likely regret going 4-core i5/i7 in a year or two otherwise.

If you do decide to go Ryzen, get the fastest DDR4 you can.

Vega 64/FE will destroy 1080 once drivers come in. Right now they trade blows in majority of dx11 games but vega 64 comes out on top in dx 12 games.

A GTX 1060 and a GTX 970 and a RX 480 all perform pretty close to one another.

Putting a 970 a bracket below is senseless, and putting a 1080 in the same bracket as the rest is also senseless.

Your entire "mid" list has a wildly eclectic range of power. Entirely senseless.
kindofagrump 16 hours ago#35
More realistic list, IMO:

low (1080p 30/1080p 60 with concessions):
1050
750 Ti
Whatever AMD's equivelant is to that. 560?

Low-mid tier (1080p 60 with concessions):
1050ti
470
570

Mid tier (1080p 60, 1440p with concessions):
970
480
1060
580
980

High tier (1440p 60):
1070
980ti
56

very high tier (1440p 60/4K with concessions):
1080
64
Vega FE

ultra tier (4K with fewer concessions):
Titan Xp
1080ti
Titan X Pascal
It looks fine, although there's no way in hell you'll need 32 GB of RAM right now, unless you're running a server, like someone else said already, and if you're gonna do that, then get a dual Xeon board, so you can at least have two processors! :-D (I kid. You don't need 32 GB of RAM for gaming, and you sure as hell don't need a dual Xeon mobo, unless you're, like, a business or something. Heh.)

I'd also suggest upgrading to an i7, if you can afford it, or wait for Intel's 8th generation of processors to fully roll out, if you don't mind putting off your build for a few months. The desktop PC variety should launch in the fall. Coffee Lake hasn't been given a release date yet, mind, but the 8th gen in general has a fall release window, as far as I've read. Even if you get a 7th gen processor then, it may have dropped in price to make way for the newer processors, but I'm not sure if that's how it works. But still, there will be more processing options in the fall, if you can wait a few months.

Here's some info on Intel's upcoming processors:

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/08/intel-first-8th-generation-processors-are-just-updated-7th-generation-chips/

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/intel-8th-gen-core-specs-technology-explained-2952599

I don't know anything about AMD, so I can't help you there.

But yeah, as for RAM, 16 GB is about the most you should need right now. I'm running 16 in my rig, and it's been plenty for me, and I push my machine. As has been said, it's easy to upgrade RAM, so you can always buy more later.
