Who the f*** use auto brightness?
It was removed purposely. New 2DS XL does not have the feature.

Honestly, the first thing I did with every 3DS system I had was to turn that option off. I found it really annoying to see the screen constantly becoming darker or brighter. I don't think that it saves that much battery anyway, plus almost everybody have a powerbank for longer periods away from home.

it saved by about 50%. and drained the battery faster by about 50%....

It operates within that range set, etc...

Not bad, always thought that it was much less... but It really drives me mad to see it anyway :)

it really depends on if your in the shade more or less vs being directly in the sunlight more or less...One side may save more battery vs the other may drain the battery more, so it really depends on which side your in more shade or sunlight, etc, and inbetween, etc, and so forth....Follow that, and the battery may drain equal, more or less depending on the situation, etc...By sunlight I include lighting, etc....

It may use a little more battery to operate, etc....
Doesn't the auto-brightness use the same sensor as the super-stable 3D? If so, that'd explain why they got rid of it (in addition to being both useless and annoying).

It's not supposed to be about power saving, it's about changing the lighting intensity to match the surrounding sources so you don't have to look at something that contrasts the local environment too heavily.
DorkLink said I could borrow his signature so I did (see below):
